Please join CCU's School of Music as we welcome Guest Artist Paul Barnes, Hixson-Lied Professor of Piano at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Music. Mr. Barnes will perform a recital of compositions for which he's given the world-premier performances. Gilad Cohen's Ballade was the winner of the American Liszt Society Bicentennial Composition Competition in 2011. Barnes has collaborated with world-renown composer Philip Glass for the past seventeen years and Glass's recording label Orange Mountain Music has released three CDs of Barnes performances. In honor of the composer's 75th birthday this year, Barnes will perform selections from his transcriptions of Glass's music including the Orphee Suite for Piano, the Trilogy Sonata, and the Piano Concerto No.2. Barnes commissioned the concerto to commemorate the bicentennial of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Barnes will conclude the program with N.LIncoln Hanks' Monstre Sacre, a four movement virtuoso work exploring the complicated and conflicted life of the artist.
This concert is free and open to the public.
