CCU English Professor Named Fulbright Scholar

 Dr. Windy Counsell Petrie, associate professor of English at Colorado Christian University, was awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to teach at Vilnius University in Vilnius, Lithuania. During her time at the University, Dr. Petrie will teach a course that examines individual's roles in local and global community as portrayed in 20th century World Literature, develop curriculum, and engage in research. Dr. Petrie has taught English at CCU for five years and serves as advisor for the Paragon, a student-run literary magazine. Her areas of expertise include The Novel, Civil War to World War II American literature, nineteenth and early twentieth-century British literature, and autobiography. Dr. Petrie holds a Doctorate and a Master of Arts in English from the University of Delaware, and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Pepperdine University.

The Fulbright Scholar program sends approximately 800 professionals to around 140 countries each year. The program's purpose is to build mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries. The Fulbright program, America's flagship international exchange activity, is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Recipients of Fulbright Scholar awards are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement and because they have demonstrated extraordinary leadership in their fields.
