Colorado Christian University kicked off the month of May with
its annual commencement ceremony for graduates of the College of Undergraduate
Studies and College of Adult and Graduate Studies. In total, 377 candidates
were recognized on May 7 at the ceremony attended by nearly 3,000 family
members and guests and held at Cherry Hills Community Church in Highlands
Ranch, Colo.
Dr. Jerry White -- author, scientist, retired U.S. Air
Force officer, and president emeritus of worldwide parachurch ministry The
Navigators -- offered this year's keynote address. Delivering practical life
lessons from the stage, he peppered each with witty humor that tickled the
crowd and helped his advice stick.
"Work is a holy calling, a noble
calling, and an incredible opportunity to advance the kingdom of God," he
argued. Christ-followers spend a majority of their lives in the workplace,
just like everyone else, and their witness for Christianity is often judged
less by their evangelistic efforts and more by their professional quality and
character. The implication: Work has Kingdom impact, in and of itself, so do
it well.
The University presented Dr. White onstage with an
honorary doctorate of humanities, and likewise honored Jane Norton, the 46th
lieutenant governor of Colorado, only the third woman in history to hold that
office.
In a special ceremony immediately following, ROTC graduates
Cole Johnson and Adam Mueller were commissioned as second lieutenants in the
United States Army.
