After Hurricane Katrina destroyed my hometown on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, I began working as a news anchor at a local TV station. Most of the reporting I did was in relation to the storm and the recovery process. There was an overwhelming need among all the Gulf Coast residents, and I wanted to do more to help them than just stick a camera in their faces. It took several years of asking God how He wanted to use me before I decided to leave my film and television background and pursue counseling.

In a crazy turn of events, I moved to Denver. After hearing a KLOVE commercial about Colorado Christian University, I applied and was accepted into the Master's program for Counseling. However, the same week that I was accepting into the program, I found out that I was pregnant with my first child. I was scared and apprehensive, for many reasons, about moving forward and attending an intense master's program at a Christian University with a baby on the way. But I just knew that God had brought me to CCU for a reason.

I am so thankful that I didn't let my fear get in the way of attending CCU that fall, because the amount of support that I received from my classmates and faculty was overwhelming. Last month, God blessed me with a beautiful, healthy daughter, and I could not wait to go back to class the following week to tell my CCU family all about her. The cohort system at CCU has been such a blessing in my life, and has not only provided academic support, but also comfort and help in my personal and spiritual life as well.
