Reading Education

Reading Education

"A capacity and taste for reading gives access to whatever has already been discovered by others."
-Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States (1809-1865)

The Reading Education minor is available to elementary and special education students who have made a career change decision and don’t plan to pursue licensure. Though the minor doesn’t lead you to a Colorado teacher licensure, it still includes a core class load that increases your ability as a leader to instruct students. The Reading Education minor is especially recommended if you plan to work in settings where you’ll interact with, counsel, lead, coach, or instruct middle or high school-aged students. The Education major reading core, which largely makes up the Reading Education minor, has been recognized in Colorado for excellence in preparing graduates to train young students.

Dr. Debora Scheffel

Dean and Professor of Education
School of Education

Faith and learning are integrally related. An individual may have a formal education but lack deeper understanding of the meaning of knowledge, and thus neglect the larger metaphysical questions that render knowledge relevant to life's ultimate questions. I seek to continue to develop a philosophy of education consistent with faith that informs decision making in academia, education policy work, and education practice.
