Preparing for College
Regardless of whether your student is a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior in high school it is never too early for them to start preparing for their college career. Here are some things you can do to help them get ready no matter where they are at now:
- Encourage them to take advanced classes that will prepare them for the academic rigor of college
- Make sure they are taking courses required for entrance into most colleges and universities:
-English (four years)
-Math (three to four years)
-Science (three to four years)
-Foreign Language (two to three years)
-Other core classes could be Psychology, Government, Economics, etc.
- Encourage them to start looking into scholarship opportunities
- Encourage them to get involved in leadership activities at their high school, in the local community, and/or at church
Where Do You Start?
Starting the college application process can be overwhelming. But it shouldn’t be! This is an exciting time for you and your student to work together on decisions that will impact the rest of their lives. To start the admission process at CCU, students should sign up to join the mailing list so they can learn more about opportunities available to them at CCU. If they personalize this Web site, they will receive customized information on programs and extracurricular activities that interest them. Encourage them to apply online when they are ready, that way they will be able to check their admission status on our Web site. Be sure that they turn in all documents required to complete the application process.
