June 8, 2010 - The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference recognized the best of the best Monday, honoring the top student-athletes in the conference from each member institution. Boasting strong performances in the classroom in addition to solid play as athletes, the recipients - one male and one female from each school - were named 2010 RMAC Honor Student-Athletes.
Representing Colorado Christian were seniors Lynda Hughes and Cooper Pasque. Hughes, an Elementary Education major from Grand Junction, CO, graduated in May with an impressive 3.96 overall GPA. Hughes served as captain for CCU Volleyball in her final season.
A CCU Cross Country captain, Cooper Pasque won the NCCAA's Wheeler Award in the fall and last
month received a degree in Biology and History. Like Hughes, Pasque also graduated with a 3.96 cumulative grade point average.
To be eligible for the Honor Student-Athlete award, students must have competed in one of the conference-sponsored championship sports for 2 or more seasons, carry a minimum 3.3 GPA, and be of good character. True freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible for the award.
June 3, 2010 – Head Coach Tim Hays announced last week the addition of 9 stand-out prospects to an already strong Colorado Christian University Women’s Basketball roster. After winning the Rocky Mountain East Division Championship in 2010, the newcomers are expected to hit the ground running, and help CCU take the next step toward their championship expectations. June 2, 2010 - The Cougars of Colorado Christian University won their third straight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Sportsmanship Cup, announced today by RMAC Commissioner Joel R. Smith. This is the fourth year of the RMAC Sportsmanship Cup. University of Nebraska at Kearney won the inaugural Sportsmanship Cup in 2006-07.
The voting process for the RMAC Sportsmanship Cup is an on-line system that ranks four game environment factors: players, fans, staff, and coaches. Each category received one ranking from excellent to poor. Each sport’s head coach and a Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) member from each school voted per sport on all 21 RMAC sponsored sports.
Colorado Christian received an average overall score of 4.239. Also ranking in the top five for the Sportsmanship Cup were Nebraska-Kearney (4.145), Colorado Mines (3.877), Chadron State (3.861) and Regis (3.845).
The Cougars accumulated the highest ranking average in three of the four categories: Players (4.26), Fans (4.17), and Coaches (4.31). The Lopers earned the highest average for Staff, with a 4.31 ranking.
Colorado Christian will be recognized and receive their RMAC Sportsmanship Cup on Saturday, June 26 at the RMAC Hall of Fame & Awards Ceremony.
May 21, 2010 - With 2 NCCAA World Series wins under their belt, Colorado Christian baseball was confidently hoping for a win in Friday's semi-final game against Olivet Nazarene University at Legacy Field.
In keeping with the strong play of CCU's pitchers at the 2010 tournament, Trey Stastny came out strong, holding ONU batters scoreless and allowing only 2 hits in the first 5 innings of the game. The junior pitcher from Durango threw 3 strikeouts, but would eventually give up 6 total hits and 4 earned runs in the complete game.
It was a quiet game until the sixth inning, when the Tigers scored the first 3 runs of the game on 3 hits. (More)...
May 20, 2010 - Playing in a must-win contest against King College out of Bristol, TN, the Cougars of Colorado Christian brought the heat on offense, rattling off 11 hits and scoring 9 runs - 8 of them earned - to stay alive in the National Tournament.
Though King got on top early, scoring the first run of the game, CCU answered in a big way in the second inning. After Christian took over the lead, scoring three times off singles from Michael Cavazos, JL Buchanan and Brandon Adams, NCCAA All-American Doug Pavlich widened the lead to seven when a grand slam to left field scored Ryan Serena, Seve Carbajal, and Chris Guyer.
King managed another run in the top of the third, but the Tornado could not put together a strong enough game to stop the CCU momentum. (More)...
May 20, 2010 - CCU golfer Jon Klingensmith shaved 9 strokes off his Wednesday score, and moved up 20 spots into a tie for 66th at the 108-golfer NCAA Division II National Tournament Thursday. Despite shooting an 81 and 82 the first two days of play, the Cougar junior shot a 73, just one stroke over par on day 3 of the event in Noblesville, OH. Klingensmith finished all three rounds with a 236 stroke total.
For his accomplishments this year, the NCAA honored Klingensmith Thursday with his first All-Region award.
Though originally scheduled to play four rounds, bad weather has caused the NCAA to narrow the field of golfers for Friday's round. With a 236 stroke total, the CCU golfer failed to make the cut.
May 19, 2010 - Though they were the underdog heading into the 2010 NCCAA World Series, Colorado Christian baseball knocked off Southeastern College in a 7/10 matchup Tuesday morning at Legacy Field in Mason, OH. Needing two runs in the final inning to take the game, the Cougars got help from sophomore David Altman, who delivered a walk-off single with the game tied at four in the seventh to give the Cougars the win and keep their championship hopes alive. May 19, 2010 - Day two of the NCAA Division II National Tournament brought temperatures in the 50s and soggy greens at The Sagamore Golf Club in Noblesville. And though CCU's Jon Klingensmith struggled under the conditions, the junior still has 36 holes to heat up.
Klingensmith followed up Tuesday's 81 with a Wednesday score of 82 - ten strokes over and 20 off the current tournament leader. He'll tee off Thursday at 8:10.

May 18, 2010 - The Sagamore Golf Club in Noblesville, IN hasn't been around long, but it has already become a respected course. Today the 108 golfers competing in the 2010 NCAA Division II National Tournament found out why.
"Sagamore is an extremely difficult course that today humbled many of the best players in the nation," commented Coach Mark Hull, who is with CCU's only representative at the tournament, Jon Klingensmith. Klingensmith shot an 81 on the first day of play Tuesday, and though he sits at nine back (tied for 63), the junior from Denver still has 54 holes to make a strong move. (More)...
May 17, 2010 – The 2009-10 school year has come to an end, and with it the usual busyness that accompanies CCU’s 900+ students. The Lakewood campus is quiet, the apartments are empty, and the available parking spots abound. While most of CCU’s students have gone home to start jobs or reconnect with family and friends, there are a select few who are still very busy with the business of the 09-10 school year.
After qualifying as an individual for the NCAA Division II National Golf Tournament, CCU junior Jon
Klingensmith joins seven other individuals and twenty teams participating for the 2010 National Title. Held at the Sagamore Golf Club in Noblesville, IN, this year’s 72-hole event begins with a practice round on Monday the 17th, and ends with the final 18 holes on Friday the 21st. Klingensmith tees off on Tuesday at 12:50 pm. Live scoring is available on NCAA.com, and updates will be provided daily on the CCU Athletics webpage.
Just two hours away in Mason, OH, CCU Baseball will be competing for their own shot at a National Championship. After winning their third-straight NCCAA Central Region banner, the well-traveled Cougar squad departed for Ohio Sunday. The #10 seed in the tournament, Colorado Christian is set to play #7 Southeastern College at 10:00 am on Wednesday. The winner of the CCU-SC
game will play #2 seeded North Greenville College at 4:15 pm. The NCCAA World Series is a ten-team tournament played at Prasco Park in Mason.
Leading the Cougar team is NCCAA Central Region Coach of the Year Rob Pegg. Pegg earned the honor after his squad won the regional tournament in Oklahoma City last week. Also honored (with an NCCAA First Team All Region nod) at the tournament were Christian seniors Lawson Cheek and Doug Pavlich. The award marks one of several for CCU catcher Pavlich. Originally from Golden, CO, the 6-4 senior also received NCAA Division II Second Team All-Region recognition, in addition to a Second Team All-RMAC and First Team RMAC All-Academic team selection.
Live stats will be available from Prasco Park throughout the tournament.
May 12, 2010 – Despite losing the first game of the day to Mid-America Christian, CCU Baseball won when it counted Wednesday, taking the second of two games against MACU to clinch the NCCAA Central Region title and their third-straight bid to the National Christian College Athletic Association Baseball Championships. May 12, 2010 – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced its All-Academic Teams for golf and tennis Wednesday, and five Colorado Christian athletes made the list. Representing Women’s Golf, Jess Lauer received the only award for a CCU golfer. Her performance as an athlete combined with a 3.811 GPA in Biology earned the junior from Sturgis, SD First Team recognition.
Cougar Tennis placed four athletes on the post-season award list, including First Team selection Andrew Wren. Wren, a senior Accounting major from Yokoshuka, Japan, posted a 3.427 overall GPA going into the spring season. Matt Cooper (3.412, English/Secondary Ed), Logan Moody (3.426, Biblical Studies), and Calli Morgan (3.947, Business Administration) each received a Second Team nod.
To qualify for Academic All-RMAC, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.30 or better, be a starter or key reserve, and have completed two consecutive semesters at their current institution. RMAC Sports Information Directors select the First and Second Team recipients.
