The Cougar Baseball team plays its home games at All-Star Park in Lakewood, CO. The stadium is located at 200 S. Harlan St., just north of Alameda Ave. between Wadsworth Blvd. and Sheridan Blvd.

May 12, 2008—The CCU baseball team defeated Mid-America Christian and Oklahoma Wesleyan this past weekend in the NCCAA Regional Championships which were held in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
The Cougars cruised to an easy 11-1 decision over Mid-America in game one, before defeating host Oklahoma Wesleyan 3-2 in day two of action.
CCU dropped a disappointing 1-2 loss to OKWU in game two of the best of three series, before rebounding for a 6-5 victory and a ticket to the NCCAA National Championships.
The men now prepare for the NCCAA National Championships which will be held May 21-24 at Bob Cene Park in Struthers, Ohio.
May 13, 2008—Five members of the CCU men’s baseball team have been named to the 2008 NCCAA All-Region Team, led by Chad Barnhill, who was named NCCAA Regional Player of the Year, while head coach Rob Pegg was tabbed the NCCAA Regional Coach of the Year.
Andrew Kaiser joins Barnhill, Chris Guyer, Brett Myatt and Bud Wilborn on the prestigious list of NCAA regional standouts.
Kaiser improved to 8-6 on the season after tossing the Cougars to two victories this past weekend, combining for seven strikeouts and giving up only four earned runs.
Barnhill and Guyer each added three RBI’s and three hits for the Cougars, Myatt was an impressive 4-9 at the plate with three runs scored and two RBI’s, while Wilborn went the full seven innings on the mound in a thrilling 3-2 game one win over Oklahoma Wesleyan.
Coach Pegg topped the list of weekend award winners with the NCCAA Regional Coach of Year nod, after leading the men to an NCCAA Regional Championship in CCU’s first season as a member.
The men now prepare for the NCCAA National Championships which will be held May 21-24 at Bob Cene Park in Struthers, Ohio.
May 8, 2008—The CCU baseball team put an 11-1 hurtin’ on Mid-America Christian Thursday afternoon by slapping in a whopping 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth and forcing the officials to employ the 10 run mercy rule.
Andrew Kaiser improved to 7-6 on the season after allowing only one run on five hits while striking out two.
Michael Cavazos was the hot-hand for the Cougars on offense, going 3-3 at the plate with three RBI’s.
Chris Guyer went 2-3 with three RBI’s and a walk, while Chad Barnhill was 1-3 with one RBI and a walk.
The red-hot Cougars will now set their sights on host Oklahoma Wesleyan in a best of three series beginning Friday afternoon. The winner of the series will be crowned the NCCAA regional champion and will advance to NCCAA national championships in Ohio.
May 8, 2008—For the first time in the history of the young CCU baseball program, three Cougars have been awarded RMAC All-Conference honors.
CCU ace Andrew Kaiser, earned First Team All-RMAC recognition, while Chad Barnhill and Chris Guyer were named to the RMAC Honorable Mention Team.
Kaiser tossed CCU’s first-ever complete game shutout in a 4-0 win over New Mexico Highlands, led the men to their first win over Nebraska-Kearney,
and punctuated his senior season with a thrilling 1-0 victory over the nation’s ninth ranked Metro State Roadrunners on April 18.
Chad Barnhill was CCU’s defensive anchor all season long at the shortstop position, while providing consistency on the offensive end with a team-best .389 batting average to go along with 84 hits and 45 RBI’s in the leadoff role.
Chris Guyer proved to be the offensive sparkplug in the Cougar lineup, as the 6’2” sophomore out of Highlands Ranch finished the season ranked third in the RMAC with 15 home runs and racking up a team-best 54 RBI’s.

May 3, 2008—The CCU men’s baseball team split the final day of RMAC regular season action with New Mexico Highlands, falling 27-13 in game one, before recovering to post a 3-2 victory in the afternoon finale.
The Cougars committed seven errors and gave up 17 hits in the 27-13 loss, as the Cowboys scored in all but two innings, while capping off the offensive barrage with a 10 run eighth inning.
Brandon Adams and Chad Barnhill combined to go 5-9 at the plate, while each logged three RBI’s and one run scored in the loss.
Cameron Corbett allowed eight earned runs in 2.1 innings of work, en-route to his third loss of the year.
CCU bounced back in the final game of the series, backed by a strong seven innings by Nick Leader.
Leader went the distance for the Cougars, giving up only two earned runs on nine hits and earning his first win of the season.
The Cougars did their damage in the third inning, scoring two runs on four hits thanks to RBI singles from Michael Cavazos and Daniel Kirschler.
Daniel Castillo drove in Chad Meske in the sixth inning to give the Cougars a 3-1 lead, but Highlands would manage one more run in the bottom of the seventh before Leader finally closed the door on the Cowboy comeback bid.
The Cougars close out the regular season with a record of 14-42 overall and 6-34 in RMAC play, and now gear up for the NCCAA regional championships on May 7-10 at Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
May 2, 2008—The CCU baseball team dropped both games of the series opening double header at New Mexico Highlands University Friday afternoon, falling 5-2 and 4-2 to the Cowboys in the final weekend of RMAC regular season action in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
The Cougars trailed from stem to stern in game one, scoring only two runs despite racking up nine hits.
Daniel Kirschler led the way offensively, going 3-4 with one run scored, while Brandon Adams ignited for a 2-4 performance with one RBI.
CCU’s Andrew Kaiser dropped to 6-6 on the year, tossing eight innings, striking out eight batters and giving up five earned runs on 11 hits.
Michael Cavazos drilled a two RBI single to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the afternoon finale, but the host Cowboys answered back, rattling off four unanswered runs by games end to escape with the 4-2 decision.
Bud Wilborn went the distance for CCU, tossing six innings and allowing only three earned runs on five hits.
Chad Barnhill was his usual self, logging a strong 2-4 performance at the plate to go with one run scored.
Both teams are back at it Saturday afternoon in the series and RMAC season finale beginning at 12:00 p.m.
April 30, 2008—The Air Force Academy Falcons extended the CCU losing streak to eight games, downing the Cougars 13-4 Tuesday afternoon in Colorado Springs.
CCU gave up five runs in the first, and eventually trailed 9-0 to the host Falcons before finally getting on the board with two runs in the top of the fourth.
Brett Myatt paced the Cougars with a 2-4 effort and a run scored, while Bud Wilborn added a solo home run to right field in the eighth inning.
Cameron Corbett took the loss for CCU, falling to 2-4 on the season while giving up eight earned runs in 1.1 innings of action.
The Cougars now hit the road for the RMAC regular season finale this weekend at New Mexico Highlands University. The first of four games is slated for Friday afternoon at 12:05 p.m.
April 27, 2008—The Mesa State Mavericks completed the series sweep of CCU with a 41-7 and 11-5 victory over the Cougars Saturday afternoon at All Star Park.
Andrew Kaiser fell to 6-5 on the season after giving up 12 earned runs in four innings of work.
Chad Barnhill logged a 2-5 performance with 2 RBI’s and 2 runs scored in the game one setback.
Mesa’s TJ Butch remained unbeaten on the year, improving to 6-0 with only two earned runs and seven hits in five innings of action.
The afternoon finale featured a six run second inning for Mesa that propelled the guests to the 11-5 decision.
MSC’s Chandler Herdt hammered the games only home run, finishing the contest with four RBI’s and two runs on a 2-3 performance at the plate.
Barnhill added two runs and an RBI thanks to a 2-4 showing, while Brett Myatt went 1-4 with two RBI’s for the Cougars.
CCU’s James Dinges dropped to 0-1, pitching three innings and allowing five hits to go with three earned runs.
Jason Fronczak took the win for Mesa, tossing five innings, striking out four batters and holding the Cougars to only a pair of hits.
With the home season in the books, CCU now finishes out the regular season with a rescheduled bout at Air Force this Tuesday, before traveling to Las Vegas, New Mexico for a rematch with the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys on May 2-3.
April 25, 2008—The Mesa State Mavericks kicked off the weekend series in style, downing CCU 8-3 and 9-6 in RMAC action at All Star Park in Lakewood, Colorado.
Chris Cassell highlighted a potent Maverick offense in game one, going 2-4 at the plate with one run scored, four RBI’s and a home run.
Brent Lamaster earned the win for Mesa, improving to 3-4 on the season after a two hit, no run outing in five innings on the hill.
CCU’s Chad Barnhill got hot to the tune of two RBI’s on an efficient 2-3 performance, while Bud Wilborn went 3-5 with a run batted in.
Nick Leader pitched six strong innings for the Cougars, but ended up on the losing end after getting touched up for five runs in the seventh.
The Cougars kept things interesting early on in game two, as a Chris Guyer solo jack in the bottom of the first tied the contest up at one each.
Mesa would not be held down for long however, as the Mavericks answered with five runs in the third inning and another two in the fourth on their way to the 9-6 win.
Curtis Englehart logged a 3-4 performance with one run scored for Mesa, while Cassell was 1-2 with a pair of RBI’s.
Jason Enewold improved to 3-4 on the mound for the Mavericks, while CCU’s Bud Wilborn dropped to 2-8 after giving up five earned runs in 3.1 innings.
Guyer went 2-3 with an RBI, while Barnhill continued to impress, posting a 2-4 performance with one RBI and one run scored.
Both teams are back in action at 12:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon at All-Star Park.
April 23, 2008—The CCU baseball team has qualified for a spot in the NCCAA Regional Playoffs in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
The regional tournament will be held at Oklahoma Wesleyan University on May 7-10 and will be conducted as a dual elimination event, with the winner advancing to the national championships.
Further information, including seedings and matchups will be posted when available.
April 22, 2008—Andrew Kaiser, CCU’s senior ace out of Broomfield, Colorado, has been selected as the RMAC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season.
Kaiser was untouchable this past weekend, leading the Cougars to a 1-0 victory over the nation’s ninth ranked Metro State Roadrunners.
In the shutout, Kaiser gave up only five hits, while striking out 10 batters in nine innings of work.
Kaiser improves to 6-4 on the season, and ranks second in the RMAC with a 3.27 earned run average.
Previously, Andrew was named RMAC Pitcher of the Week when he tossed CCU's first-ever nine inning shutout in a 4-0 home win over New Mexico Highlands University on March 14.
April 23, 2008—The CCU men’s baseball team is proud to announce that five players have earned a spot on the 2007-08 RMAC Honor Roll.
Cameron Corbett, David Hendricks, Matthew Jones, Hubert Lau and Nicholas Leader were each named to the illustrious all-academic team for their standout efforts in the classroom and on the field.
The RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll recognizes student athletes who have earned a grade point average of 3.20 or better and are a starter or key reserve on their respective teams.
April 19, 2008—The CCU baseball team gave up a combined 40 runs Saturday afternoon, as the men fell 5-20 and 10-20 to the nations #9 ranked Metro State Roadrunners in the final day of the series at Regis Stadium in Denver, Colorado.
CCU’s Chris Guyer was once again red-hot in game one, going 3-5 at the plate with a run scored, while Matt Jones went 1-3 with 2 RBI’s.
Jake Palmer and Dakota Nahm each logged three RBI’s for Metro State, while Matt McConnell went 2-4 with two RBI’s and two runs scored.
Bud Wilborn took the loss for CCU, falling to 2-7 on the year after giving up eight earned runs in 1.2 innings of action.
Metro’s Ted Jamison pitched eight innings, giving up only four earned runs and striking out nine batters in the win.
The Cougar offense came alive for 10 runs off 15 hits in game two, but it was not nearly enough, as Metro lit up the scoreboard for another 20 runs on 22 hits including three Cougar errors in the 20-10 Roadrunner victory.
Chad Barnhill and Wilborn each went 2-3 in the CCU loss, while Daniel Kirschler exploded for a 3-4 performance with three RBI’s, two runs scored and a home run.
CCU led 8-7 heading into the top of the fifth, when Metro erupted for seven runs to douse any hopes of a Cougar upset.
Metro’s Brennan Brown unleashed for seven RBI’s and four runs scored in a 5-6 performance at the plate.
David Hendricks tossed three innings for CCU, giving up six earned runs and nine hits, while Lawson Cheek took the loss with eight hits but only one earned run in two innings of work.
Metro’s Derek Colbert improved to 3-0, pitching four innings and allowing two earned runs.
The Cougars now set their sights on the Mesa State Mavericks next weekend at All-Star Park. First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m.
April 18, 2008—The Colorado Christian University baseball team split a doubleheader with Metro State Friday afternoon, stealing a 1-0 victory in the series opener, before dropping a 7-6 extra inning decision in the afternoon finale.
Andrew Kaiser was untouchable for the Cougars in game one, going the full nine innings, fanning 10 Roadrunner batters and giving up only five hits and zero runs in a 1-0 opening game thriller.
CCU’s Brett Myatt drove in Bud Wilborn in the bottom of the eighth to notch the only run of the game for either team.
With the game on the line and the Cougars nursing a precarious one run advantage, Kaiser calmly took to the mound and delivered a two hit, zero run bottom of the ninth to drop the guests to their fourth conference loss of the year.
The Cougars nearly made it two in a row in game two, but Metro was able to hold off an eighth inning CCU rally to escape with a 7-6 victory.
Each team went into the extended frame knotted up at four apiece, when Metro unleashed for a two run, three hit eighth inning to put the Cougars in a deep hole with one chance left.
CCU made a run of it in the bottom of the inning, pulling off two runs and four hits, coming up just short when Chris Guyer struck out swinging with two men on base.
Eric Mansfield went 2-4 with an RBI for Metro in the win, while Josh Eckert scored the win, improving to 6-1 on the season.
Myatt led the way for CCU, going 2-3 with two RBI’s in the loss.
Michael Cavazos added an RBI, while going 2-4 at the plate.
Nicholas Leader pitched seven innings for CCU, giving up three earned runs on seven hits and striking out five.
Matt Tomlinson took the loss, dropping to 1-4 and giving up two earned runs in one inning of work.
Each team is back at it tomorrow afternoon when they square off at 12:00 p.m. at Regis University.
April 17, 2008—The April 16 baseball game at Air Force has been rescheduled to April 29 at 3:00 p.m. due to the unexpected blizzard-like conditions which plagued the Front Range this past Wednesday.
April 13, 2008—The Nebraska-Kearney baseball team avenged a Saturday afternoon split with CCU, downing the Cougars 17-4 and 14-4 in the final day of action Sunday afternoon at Oredigger Stadium in Golden, Colorado.
UNK used a five run first inning and an eight run fifth inning to keep the Cougars at bay in the 17-4 game one victory.
Kyle smith hammered a two run homer in the first inning, while Joe Nowaczyk added a grand slam in the eighth inning to highlight the potent Loper offense.
Chad Barnhill continued his strong play over the weekend, going 3-5 with one run scored, while Brandon Adams and Daniel Kirschler each went 2-4 in the Cougar loss.
CCU’s David Hendricks fell to 1-5 after getting touched up for 13 hits and eight earned runs in four innings of work.
Jared Loschen claimed the victory for Kearney, striking out six batters and allowing only four earned runs in six frames on the mound.
Game two was much of the same for the Cougars, as the Lopers racked up seven runs in the fifth inning to blow the game wide open and cruise to the 14-4 decision.
Chris Guyer erupted offensively for CCU, cranking two bombs on the day, and his third of the weekend to bring his season home run tally to 13.
Kearney added five jacks of their own, while scoring 14 runs on 15 hits in the 10 run victory.
CCU’s Matt Tomlinson (1-3) gave up six earned runs in four innings of work, while Barnhill logged a 3-4 performance with one RBI and one run scored in the Cougar loss.
Griff Watson put on an offensive showcase for the Lopers, going 2-3 at the plate with three RBI’s and two runs scored. Blake Cover and Nate Swearer also finished with three RBI’s in the Kearney victory.
The Cougars are back at it this Wednesday when they travel to the Air Force Academy for a single at 3:00 p.m.
April 12, 2008—Colorado Christian University baseball defeated the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers for the first time in CCU baseball’s three year history, scoring a 9-3 victory in the first game, before falling 6-1 in the afternoon finale Saturday afternoon at All Star Park in Lakewood, Colorado.
The Cougars trailed 3-2 heading into the bottom of the eighth, before catching fire with an eight hit, seven run inning to put the game on ice.
Chad Barnhill went 4-5 with two RBI’s and two runs, while Chris Guyer went 2-4 with a pair of RBI’s and a home run in the CCU victory.
Daniel Kirschler also added a home run for CCU, while going 2-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.
Cougar ace, Andrew Kaiser, was once again the hero; pitching a complete game, striking out three batters and allowing only six hits and zero earned runs.
UNK was led by Trey Howell and Blake Cover, who were each 2-4 at the plate, with Howell adding an RBI in the Loper loss.
Ryan Sheldon fell to 6-3 after tossing seven innings and giving up six hits and three earned runs.
The Lopers jumped ahead 1-0 after only one inning in the afternoon finale, before tacking on four more runs in the third and a final run in the seventh to cruise to the 6-1 win.
Bud Wilborn suffered his sixth loss of the year giving up six hits and only two earned runs in six innings on the mound.
The lone Cougar run came in the fourth inning when Matt Jones drove in Chad Meske thanks to an error at shortstop.
Ryan Wrobel went the distance for UNK, pitching seven innings and giving up 10 hits and zero earned runs while striking out four.

April 10, 2008—The CCU baseball series versus Nebraska-Kearney has been pushed back one day to Saturday and Sunday due to the snow.
Saturday’s game will begin at 12:00 p.m. at All-Star Park, while Sunday’s game will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Colorado Mines.
April 10, 2008—The CCU baseball team scored a 7-2 victory over the Colorado Mines Orediggers in a rain-shortened non-RMAC game Wednesday night in Golden, Colorado.
Bud Wilborn led the way for the Cougars, going 3-for-4 with a double and five RBI’s, while Chad Barnhill (double, stolen base, RBI) went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.
CCU broke open a 1-1 game by adding 2 runs in the top of the fifth and four more in the sixth inning.
Cameron Corbett (7.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 3 K) went the distance for CCU, improving his season record to 2-3.
Chris Polton (2-for-4) also scored two runs for the men who improve to 11-28 on the season.

April 8, 2008—Chris Guyer was a one-man wrecking crew Tuesday afternoon, pounding a three-run homer in the eighth inning, going 4-6 at the plate while chipping in four hits and three RBI’s in a 9-8 extra inning loss to the Air Force Academy Falcons in Colorado Springs.
The Cougars logged three runs off five hits in the first inning, and held a narrow 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of three.
The Air Force offense caught fire in the next two frames however, as the hosts rattled off two runs in the third and another three in the fourth to claim a decisive 8-4 advantage.
Just when CCU looked to be on the ropes, Guyer fired off his 10th homer of the year, scoring three and capping off a four run, four hit eighth inning that knotted the contest up at eight runs each.
The Cougars poured in 16 hits on the afternoon, but were unable to get anything going offensively in innings nine and ten, as some strong Falcon pitching put the CCU rally on ice.
Air Force put the finishing touches on the afternoon thriller, when Josh Meents slapped a double down the left field line to bring home pinch runner Tytus Moss from second base for the victory.
Cougar reliever Lawson Cheek (0-4) took the loss, pitching the final 2.1 innings and allowing three hits to go with one run and one strikeout.
Kyle Brink and Bud Wilborn each went 2-4 with an RBI for the hot-hitting Cougars.
The Cougars are back in action this Wednesday when the battle Colorado Mines in a 7:00 p.m. single in Golden, Colorado.
April 5, 2008—The CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves completed the weekend sweep of CCU, downing the Cougars 10-5 and 9-2 in doubleheader action Saturday afternoon in Pueblo, Colorado.
Andrew Kaiser was back on the mound for CCU, taking the loss in the afternoon opener and falling to 4-4 after allowing 10 hits and five earned runs, while striking out three in four innings of work.
Once again it was Chris Guyer leading the way offensively for CCU, as the sophomore outfielder rattled off three RBI’s, two hits and two runs, including a homer to right center in the top of the seventh.
CCU pulled ahead 1-0 in the top of the first of the afternoon finale on a Bud Wilborn sac fly, before adding one more run in the top of the second on a Seth Rutt RBI single.
That would be the last the Cougars would see of the lead however, as Pueblo scored twice in the bottom of the second to tie things up, before tacking on seven more runs by games end to roll to the 9-2 win.
Matt Tomlinson gave up 11 hits and seven earned runs in five innings on the mound, while dropping to 2-1 on the season.
The Cougars now gear up for a single with the Air Force Academy this Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in Colorado Springs.
April 4, 2008—The CCU baseball team faced some strong pitching Friday afternoon, falling 9-2 and 10-1 to the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves at Rawlings Field in Pueblo, Colorado.
Brett Myatt and Chad Meske each managed an RBI in the 9-2 loss, while Bud Wilborn gave up six earned runs on 11 hits to fall to 2-5 on the season.
The Cougars fell behind four runs after five innings, before scoring their first run in the top of the seventh thanks to a Myatt RBI triple to left center.
Pueblo answered with a five run, five hit bottom of the seventh to put the game safely in hand for the hosts.
CCU got on the boards first in game number two, when Daniel Castillo reached on an error by Pueblo’s right fielder.
It was all Pueblo after that, as the Thunderwolves scored 10 runs on 14 hits to cruise to the 10-1 victory.
David Hendricks pitched five innings and gave up six earned runs while falling to 1-4 in the Cougar loss.
Both teams are right back at it tomorrow afternoon in the final day of double-header excitement at 12:00 p.m. at beautiful Rawlings Field in Pueblo.
March 29, 2008—The Regis Rangers scored a total of 43 runs Saturday afternoon, outdueling the Cougars 25-15 and 18-8 to pull off a 3-1 series win at Regis Field in Denver, Colorado.
CCU trailed 9-8 heading into the top of the fourth in game one, but was unable to hold off a Regis offensive barrage, as the Rangers bombarded the Cougars with nine runs in the fourth inning alone to break the game wide open on the way to the 25-15 victory.
Chad Barnhill led the way for CCU, racking up four RBI’s and four hits in five appearances, while Chris Guyer unloaded for CCU’s only home run of the game.
Cam Corbett was the first Cougar to fall prey to RU’s offensive assault, as the junior from Casper, Wyoming dropped to 1-3 while getting lit up for 11 hits, but only three earned runs in three innings of action.
The Cougars committed six costly errors in the 10 run loss.
Chris Steinbeck and Etienne Materre combined for 10 RBI’s and seven hits for the Rangers.
Dan Kosloski is credited with the RU win, going three innings on the hill, while allowing seven earned runs, nine hits and tossing five K’s.
Game two featured more red-hot Ranger bats, as Regis jumped out to a 12-2 lead after three innings and never looked back.
Kosloski finished with five RBI’s and three hits in the win, punctuated by a grand slam home run in the second inning.
Brennan Bonati went five innings on the mound, giving up six hits and two earned runs in the Ranger win.
Daniel Kirschler led CCU’s offensive attack, logging three RBI’s and two hits in four at-bats.
Brett Myatt wound up in the loss column for the Cougars, falling to 1-4 on the year while getting torched for 12 earned runs and seven hits in three innings.
The Cougars (10-23, 3-19 RMAC) are back in action on Friday April 4, when they travel to Pueblo, Colorado for a series with the Thunderwolves of CSU-Pueblo.
March 28, 2008—The CCU baseball team downed Regis University 8-7 in the series opener between the two teams, before dropping a 14-1 decision to the Rangers in the final game of doubleheader action Friday afternoon at Regis Stadium in Denver, Colorado.
The Cougars held a comfortable 7-2 lead heading into the top of the seventh in game one, when Regis unloaded for a three run, five hit inning to bring the Rangers within striking distance at 7-5.
CCU added some insurance in the bottom of the eighth off of a Jamie Nickerson RBI single that gave the Cougars a seemingly safe three run advantage.
Regis kept it interesting however, and tallied three hits and two runs in the top of the ninth to pull within one run.
With two men on and no outs on the board, RU’s Etienne Materre popped up into a bizarre double play that caught Anthony Musielka unexpectedly heading from third base to home.
The Cougars were able to put the finishing touches on the game one win when Mike Khouri grounded out to second base to end the inning and give CCU their third RMAC win of the year.
Chris Guyer logged his eighth double of the year, while firing in two RBI’s off of two hits for the Cougars.
Bud Wilborn improved to 2-4 on the season, putting in six innings of work and allowing only one earned run on five hits, while fanning three.
Gerard Mohrmann fell to 3-3 for Regis, giving up three earned runs and 10 hits in six innings of action.
Game two was a different story for CCU, as Regis scored four runs in the first inning and added five more in the second en-route to a decisive 14-1 victory.
The Cougars showed signs of life in the fourth inning when Wilborn nailed an RBI single to score Guyer, bringing the count to 9-1.
The Rangers kept things rolling however, and tacked on another four runs by games end to cruise the 13 run win.
Nick Leader dropped to 0-1 for CCU, allowing seven earned runs and five hits in two innings on the hill.
RU’s Anthony Musielak went the distance in the win, logging a full seven innings and giving up only one earned run and two hits while striking out five batters.
Each team is right back at it tomorrow afternoon for another day of back-to-backs at Regis University beginning at 12:00 p.m.
March 26, 2008—The Montana State-Billings Yellowjackets hammered four home runs en-route to an 11-10 victory Wednesday afternoon to complete the three-game sweep over the Cougars at Pirtz Field in Billings, Montana.
CCU’s Daniel Kirschler got hot on the offensive end, racking up three RBI’s, three hits and one run in five appearances at the plate.
Chad Barnhill continued his dominance of late, pouring in three RBI’s, two hits and one run in the loss.
Chris Guyer, Chad Meske and Seth Rutt each tacked on RBI’s for CCU, while Will Munsil took his first loss of the year, giving up eight earned runs and seven hits in four innings on the hill.
The Cougars (9-20, 2-16 RMAC) now face Regis University this Friday and Saturday at Ranger Field in Denver, Colorado. Opening pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m. on each day.
March 25, 2008—The CCU baseball team found themselves on the wrong end of a two game sweep Tuesday afternoon, falling 4-2 and 8-5 to the Montana State-Billings Yellowjackets in non-conference action at Pirtz Field in Billings, Montana.
The Yellowjackets got on the board in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single, before adding to the lead in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice bunt that put the hosts ahead 2-0.
Billings added another run in the fourth, before the Cougars came charging back in the top of the fifth thanks to a two run double by Chad Barnhill that cut the deficit to 3-2.
MSU-B added the insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning with an RBI double down the left field line that gave the Jackets a comfortable 4-2 advantage.
Barnhill paced the Cougar offense, finishing with two RBI’s and one hit in the CCU loss.
David Hendricks dropped to 1-3 on the season, pitching six innings while giving up 10 hits, four earned runs and striking out one.
The Yellowjackets opened the nightcap with three runs in the first two innings, highlighted by a two run home run in the bottom of the second.
CCU made a game of it once again in the top of the third, scoring two runs on three singles to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Billings kept the pressure on however, making it 4-2 in the bottom of the third with a RBI double by Steve Larson.
A Chris Guyer two RBI double in the top of the fifth evened the score at four each, but the Jackets were able to tack on four more runs over the next two innings to cruise to the 8-5 decision.
Barnhill and Guyer each collected two RBI’s and three hits in four at-bats.
This time it was Brett Myatt taking the loss, as the junior out of Eaton, Colorado, fanned four batters, while giving up four runs in four innings of work.
The Cougars look to avoid the series sweep as they take the field once again tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 p.m.
March 22, 2008—The Colorado Mines Orediggers pulled off a 6-4 and 17-11 victory over CCU in double header action on Friday and completed the weekend sweep with a high scoring 14-13 victory on Saturday afternoon at Oredigger Field in Golden, Colorado.
Chris Polton and Chad Barnhill each tallied two hits for the Cougars in the 6-4 loss on Friday afternoon, as Bud Wilborn (4.0 IP, 11 H, 6 R, 4 ER. 0 BB, 1 K) fell to 1-4 on the season.
Polton was once again the offensive spark in game three’s 17-11 loss, as the junior from Lompoc, California erupted for three hits, two RBI’s and two runs in four AB’s for CCU.
Barnhill added one hit and two RBI’s, while Daniel Castillo and Brett Myatt recorded a pair of hits in the CCU loss.
Myatt (2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 3 K) was charged with the loss and drops to 1-3 on the year.
The bats remained hot for both teams in Saturday’s single, as Mines survived a 14-13 slugfest in the final day of action.
Mines scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning to lead by a score of 9-1 after three innings of play.
The Cougars battled back however, scoring eight runs of their own in the top of the fourth to knot the contest up at nine each.
The Orediggers answered back with two scores in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a lead that they would not relinquish.
Trailing 14-9 after seven innings, CCU threatened with a four-run eighth, but Mines hung on to earn a sweep of the four-game series.
Bud Wilborn highlighted the action for the Cougars, going 3-4 at the plate with a grand slam and five RBI’s in the CCU loss.
Cameron Corbett (3.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K) suffered the loss for CCU, falling to 1-2 on the year.
The Cougars (9-17, 2-14 RMAC) look to get back in the win column this week when they square off against Montana State-Billings in a double-header this Tuesday at 12:00 p.m.
March 21, 2008—The CCU men’s baseball team dropped an 8-6 decision to the Colorado Mines Orediggers Thursday night in game one of the weekend series in Golden, Colorado.
Andrew Kaiser fell to 4-3 on the young season, giving up eight earned runs in six innings on the hill.
Eight Cougars notched at least one hit in the loss, led by Daniel Castillo who finished with two hits, two RBI’s and one run scored in four at-bats.
CCU entered the bottom of the fourth tied up at four runs each, but the Orediggers were able to rattle off two runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth to secure the 8-6 decision.
Both teams are back in action Friday afternoon when they kick off a double header at 3:00 p.m.
March 18, 2008—Andrew Kaiser earned his first-ever RMAC Pitcher of the Week award, after tossing the first complete game shutout in Cougar baseball’s three year history.
The senior ace out of Broomfield, Colorado improved to 4-2 on the year, while going a full nine innings in a 4-0 victory over New Mexico Highlands University this past Friday.
Kaiser gave up only four hits, struck out four batters and led the Cougars to their first conference win of the season.
On the year, Andrew leads the RMAC with a league-best 2.61 ERA.
The Cougars are back in action this Thursday when they battle the Colorado Mines Orediggers at 7:00 p.m. in Golden, Colorado.
March 15, 2008—The New Mexico Highlands Cowboys rallied from two losses on Friday to down the Cougars 11-3 and 9-5 in the final day of the series Saturday afternoon in Lakewood, CO.
Once again Chris Guyer paced the Cougar offensive effort, nailing a home run in the eighth, while Daniel Castillo finished with two RBI’s and two hits in the 11-3 game one loss.
Lawson Cheek fell to 0-2 for the Cougars, pitching four innings and allowing two earned runs.
A huge six run sixth inning by Highlands proved to be too much for the Cougars to overcome in a 9-5 loss in the final game of the weekend.
Matt Tomlinson was touched up for seven earned runs and 11 hits in five innings on the hill, falling to 1-1 on the season.
Guyer went yard once again in game two, hammering a three RBI jack in the bottom of the first that gave CCU a short lived 3-2 advantage.
Brett Myatt added two RBI’s in two AB’s in the CCU loss.
The Cougars now fall to 9-13 overall and 2-8 in the RMAC, and will travel to Colorado Springs for a bout with the Air Force Academy Falcons this Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
March 14, 2008—The CCU baseball team earned their first two conference wins of the year Friday afternoon, hammering the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys 4-0 and 4-2 in the series opener between the two teams in Lakewood, CO.
Andrew Kaiser was untouchable on the mound, going the full nine innings and tossing the young program’s first-ever shutout in the 4-0 victory.
Kaiser struck out six and gave up only four hits while facing 33 batters.
The Cougars did their offensive damage in the fourth inning, when a Brandon Adams RBI single put the first run on the board for the good guys. Matt Jones then drove home Adams on a sacrifice fly to center field, before a Chad Barnhill single drove in Jamie Nickerson to cap a five hit, three run bottom of the fourth.
CCU added one more in the eighth before Kaiser closed the door on the Cowboys with a no hit, no run ninth inning.
The men kept the momentum rolling in game two, scoring four runs on five hits and cruising to the 4-2 victory.
This time it was Bud Wilborn earning the win with a solid seven innings on the hill.
Wilborn allowed only three hits and struck out four, while not giving up a single earned run in the Cougar win.
Chris Guyer continued is offensive assault, unleashing for three RBI’s, two hits and one run in three AB’s.
The Cougars are now 2-8 in conference action, and look to add two more to the win column tomorrow afternoon when they face NMHU in the final day of double-header excitement. First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m.
March 9, 2008—The Mesa State Mavericks downed the CCU baseball team 10-4, 6-2, 6-1 and 14-1 this weekend in Grand Junction, Colorado.
The Cougars took a two run lead into the bottom of the third in game one, but Mesa fired off eight runs in the next two innings to pull of the 10-4 victory.
Lawson Cheek fell to 0-1 on the year, pitching five innings and giving up eight earned runs in the Cougars loss.
Chris Guyer notched two hits in two AB’s, and Michael Cavazos logged two RBI’s for CCU.
Game two saw the Cougars give up a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth, when the Mavericks rattled off four runs on two hits in the inning. Mesa tacked on one more in the fifth and held on for the 6-2 victory.

March 1, 2008—The CCU men’s baseball team found themselves on the wrong end of a four game sweep, falling 8-14, 6-16, 0-23, and 2-9 to the Metro State Roadrunners in the conference opening series for both teams this weekend in Denver, Colorado.
Andrew Kaiser took his first loss of the year for the Cougars in game one, pitching four innings while giving up seven hits and six earned runs.
Colby Geer paced the CCU offense with two RBI’s, two hits and two runs in the game one defeat.
Game two on day one was much of the same, as the Cougars gave up five runs in the bottom of the first, and found themselves trailing the entire way.
Brett Myatt dropped to 1-2 on the year, as the junior out of Eaton, Colorado gave up nine runs and 11 hits in four innings of action.
Chad Barnhill logged a home run for the men in the 16-6 loss, while Chad Meske finished with two RBI’s, two hits and a run in three at-bats.
The first game of day two provided no relief for the visitors, as Cameron Corbett and the rest of the Cougars took their worse loss of the year, falling 0-23 to the suddenly red-hot Roadrunners.
Corbett spent five innings on the mound, while giving up 10 runs on eight hits.
The Cougars took an early lead in the final game of the series, scoring two runs in the top of the first, thanks to Michael Cavazos and Myatt who each logged an RBI.
That would be all the offense the Cougars would muster however, as Metro rattled off nine unanswered to cruise to the 9-2 victory.
This time it was Bud Wilborn taking the loss, as the junior pitcher was touched up for eight earned runs in five innings.
The Cougars now fall to 7-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play and are back in action this Friday when they face the Mesa State Mavericks at 5:00 p.m. in Grand Junction, Colorado.
February 24, 2008—The CCU men’s baseball team went undefeated over the weekend, sweeping Doane College 13-5, 12-4, 18-8 and 4-2 at Tuxedo Park in Crete, Nebraska.
The Cougars led throughout in game one, scoring seven runs in the top of the first and cruising to the 13-5 victory.
Andrew Kaiser notched the win for CCU, tossing six innings and giving up only two earned runs.
Brett Myatt led the way offensively, logging three RBI’s, three hits, two runs and a home run in three at bats.
Chris Guyer and Michael Cavazos each added a home run for the Cougars, while combining for five RBI’s and two hits.
The CCU bats remained hot in game two, as the Cougars poured in 12 more runs, including six in the third and five in the fifth inning to pull off the 12-4 victory.
Cavazos finished the day strong, adding two more hits and three runs, while Seth Rutt posted two RBI’s and one run in two AB’s.
Myatt scored the win on the mound for CCU, pitching the full seven innings and giving up only seven hits and three earned runs, while striking out eight.
On day two, the Cougars picked right up where they left off, leading from beginning to end and out-dueling Doane 18-8 in seven innings of action.
Guyer and Daniel Kirschler each posted a home run and four RBI’s, as CCU rolled to the easy win.
Cameron Corbett won his first game of the year for the Cougars, as the junior from Casper, Wyoming logged five innings on the mound while giving up six hits, one earned run and striking out three.
The final game was a much closer affair, with the Cougars surviving 4-2 in 10 innings of play.
Trailing 0-2 in the top of the seventh, CCU got things rolling when Chad Barnhill’s RBI single to left field drove in Jamie Nickerson to bring the Cougars to within one run.
With the game on the line and two outs on the board, Guyer reached as the second baseman misplayed a popup in the infield allowing Chad Meske to round the corner to home plate and ultimately send the contest into extra innings.
The Cougars put it away with two runs in the top of the 10th and Matt Tomlinson closed the door on any hopes of a Doane rally with a 0 run, 0 hit bottom half as the visitors made it four straight road wins and improved to 7-3 on the year.
Tomlinson earned the win for the Cougars with only one hit, zero runs and zero walks to go with four strike outs in four innings of work.
CCU now opens up conference play this weekend when they travel to Metro State this Friday and Saturday. First pitch is slated for 11:00 a.m. each day.
February 9, 2008—The CCU baseball team gave up a six run seventh inning and ultimately succumbed 7-6 to the Hastings Broncos Saturday afternoon at Runyan Stadium in Pueblo, Colorado.
CCU held a 4-1 lead heading into the seventh, but could not keep the Bronco bats silent any longer, as two Cougar errors and some timely Hastings hits sparked a six run inning that gave the visitors a 7-6 advantage.
The Cougars answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh when Chris Guyer nailed his second homer of the season over the left field wall. Unfortunately, that would be the last of the offense for both teams as Hastings would hold on for the 7-6 decision.
Guyer finished with four RBI’s to go with two hits and two runs in four at bats, while Daniel Kirschler tacked on two RBI’s and two hits.
Bud Wilborn tossed six solid innings, giving up only one earned run on five hits.
CCU combined for five errors in the contest, while scoring six runs on nine hits.
The men are back in action on February 22 when they travel to Doane College for a weekend of double header excitement.
February 8, 2008—The CCU baseball team split a two game set with the Hastings College Broncos Friday afternoon, posting a dominating 12-2 victory in game one, before falling 12-4 in the finale at Runyan Park in Pueblo, Colorado.
The Cougars logged 14 hits and exploded for a six run third inning, to take control of a game in which the Broncos never threatened. The game was called in the bottom of the seventh, when the Cougars tacked on three more runs to take a 10 run lead with only one out and a man on base.
Chad Barnhill was unstoppable in the victory, knocking in three RBI’s to go with three hits and two runs.
Chris Guyer also finished with three RBI’s, two hits and two runs in four AB’s.
Andrew Kaiser pitched seven solid innings, giving up eight hits and no earned runs to notch his second win of the year for the Cougars.
CCU looked to be on pace for another blow out in game two, when Guyer hammered a three run homer over the left field fence to put the men up 3-0.
That would be the final highlight for the Cougar offense however, as Hastings countered with a six run third inning and tacked on six more by games end to pull off the 12-4 upset.
Guyer posted one hit and one run to go with his three RBI’s, and Bud Wilborn added two hits, one run and one RBI on the afternoon.
David Hendricks took the loss for CCU with six earned runs and five walks in 2.2 innings of action.
The Cougars are right back at it tomorrow afternoon, when they face Hastings in a nine inning single beginning at 11:00 a.m. in beautiful downtown Pueblo.
February 7, 2008—Recent snow storms have rendered metro area baseball fields unsafe for human competition.
With the wellbeing of fans and players in mind, CCU officials acted swiftly and have moved this weekend’s contests versus Hastings College to the more tropical confines of Runyan Field in Pueblo, Colorado.
February 2, 2008—The CCU men’s baseball team kicked off the season in style, winning two of three games (7-1, 12-5, 6-12) in the season opening road trip this weekend over Oklahoma Panhandle State University.
Andrew Kaiser scored the win for the Cougars in the season opener, pitching six innings and giving up only three hits and zero runs.
Matt Tomlinson earned the save for his efforts in the final three innings, as the sophomore from Orlando, Florida, faced 11 batters, allowing no hits and no earned runs, while striking out three.
Offensively, it was Colby Geer and Kyle Brink who led the way for CCU. Each tacked on two RBI’s in the win, with Geer adding one hit and one run in only two AB’s.
Game two featured an 11 run seventh inning which propelled the Cougars to their second straight win.
Heading into the top of the seventh, CCU trailed 4-1, but the bats came alive, beginning with a Brink single on the first pitch. Daniel Kirschler nabbed the first RBI of the inning when he drove home Brink after being hit by the pitch. Brett Myatt then added an RBI single to score Bud Wilborn and on the following pitch, Seth Rutt added a three RBI single to put the Cougars ahead.
In all, the Cougars tacked on five more runs by innings end to pull off the 12-5 victory.
David Hendricks earned the win for the Cougars, pitching the final two innings and giving up only two runs and two hits.
Myatt paced CCU in game two, pouring in four RBI’s, three hits and one run in five at-bats.
In the final contest of Saturday’s twin bill, a six run fourth inning helped OPSU salvage their first win of the year with a 12-6 upset over the road-weary Cougars.
Wilborn led CCU’s offensive assault, knocking in two RBI’s and a run, while Chris Guyer added three RBI’s and one hit in three at-bats.
Myatt took the loss for the Cougars, giving up eight runs in three innings of work.
The Cougars now look ahead to a double header versus Hastings College on February 8 at 12:00 p.m. Due to unstable weather patterns; location is still to be determined.
October 31, 2007—In what is already being called the greatest Tea-Cup series in the history of CCU baseball, the Blue team completed a remarkable series comeback, by edging out a 13-11 victory over Gold and clinching the 3-2 series victory Tuesday afternoon at D’Evelyn High School.
After Blue jumped out to a commanding 8-3 lead through three innings, it was the Gold squad that showed that never say die spirit, notching six runs in the top of the fourth to pull ahead 9-8.
Blue trailed 10-8 in the last of six, when back to back 2-run doubles by Chris Polton and Hubert Lau sparked a five run inning that put Blue ahead 13-10.
Gold answered in the top of the seventh with a run, and then had the bases loaded when Blue co-captain Cam Corbett, in Jonathon Paplebon fashion, came in and closed the door with a strikeout to secure the game and series with the 13-11 final.
Blue bats were on fire, collecting 14 hits in just six at bats, led by Daniel Castillo who was perfect at the plate, going 1-1 with a three run homer and three walks.
Polton, last year’s MVP, had a big finish gathering three hits and four RBI’s. Ty Shaw and Series co-MVP Chris Guyer also chipped in two hits in the win. Co-captain Michael Cavazos was 1-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.
On the mound, it was series co-MVP Lawson Cheek who picked up his second win of the series by holding the normally potent Gold offense to just two runs in three innings.
Not to be outdone, Gold displayed some strong pressure performances as well. Co-captain Kyle Brink was 3-4 on the day with two runs scored and an RBI, while Mike Hensen added three hits and two RBI’s to the mix. Daniel Kirschler stayed hot with two hits and ultimately led the series hitting at a .500 clip. Matt Jones and Brandon Adams had two hits and accounted for three runs apiece in the loss.
Overall it was a fantastic series with all the drama and clutch plays any fan could ask for. Blue gets their name etched in immortality on the famous Tea-Cup trophy, while Gold will be making their choral debut this Thursday after Chapel in the dinning commons.
October 29, 2007—CCU’s Blue team got right back in the thick of things over the weekend, downing Gold 5-4 on Friday and 6-2 the following Saturday morning.
Friday’s game three was an absolute beauty, treating a packed house of fans to a variety of defensive gems and 12 innings of action, before Blue finally pulled off the 5-4 win.
Gold looked to be running away with the series in the sixth inning, when they scored three to pull ahead by a seemingly insurmountable two runs.
Blue refused to lose however, and answered back with two runs in the top of the eighth to tie things up at five each.
In the bottom of the 11th with two on and only one out, back to back diving plays by Chad Meske and Barnhill kept Blue alive in the game and the series, before Daniel Castillo singled home Meske in the 12th to give Blue the win and the momentum heading into Saturday.
Castillo finished game three 2-4 with two runs scored, while Chris Guyer notched two hits, a run and two RBI’s.
Andrew Kaiser earned the win, going 5 1/3 innings of relief and allowing just one run with five strikeouts.
It was all blue all the time in a game four that saw temperatures barely creep above freezing. Blue’s pitching shut down the Gold offense, allowing just two runs on six hits, as the men rolled to the 6-2 decision.
Lawson Cheek got the win, going six innings and allowing only three hits and one run while striking out four. Co-captain, Cam Corbett, posted the save for Blue, pitching three strong innings and allowing one run on three hits.
Michael Cavazos led the way offensively for Blue, going 2-4 with 2 RBI’s and a run scored, while Brett Myatt delivered the early knockout blow with a three run homer in the 4th.
The winner-take-all Game 5 will take place this Tuesday at 3:15pm. Due to overwhelming demand, ticket sales will be held exclusively online.
October 26, 2007—Gold’s offense was hitting on all cylinders Thursday afternoon, as Colby Geer and Daniel Kirschler each went 3-5 in a 10-8 victory that gave the Gold team a commanding 2-0 series lead.
Gold was trailing 5-1 when Mike Hensen stepped to the plate and pounded a big three run homer that knotted the contest up at 5 each.
Jaime Nickerson and Kyle Brink each chipped in an RBI, two hits and two runs in the victory.
Blue was paced by Chad Meske who finished with two hits, a run scored and three RBI’s on the afternoon.
Co-captain Michael Cavazos continued his strong play, going 2-3 with a pair of runs scored, while Brett Myatt and Hubert Lau each collected two hits in the loss.
David Hedricks battled through 5 and 2/3rds innings to notch the game two victory, with Robert Ladd tossing a scoreless ninth to earn the save for Gold.
Blue was out-hit 12-15 on the afternoon and also posted seven costly errors in the 10-8 defeat.
Blue now finds themselves looking down the barrel of a three game sweep, as action resumes Friday afternoon at 12:30 p.m.
October 24, 2007—The two-time defending champion Gold team, shocked the pre-season college baseball world Tuesday afternoon by upsetting a heavily favored Blue squad 6-5 in ten innings of NCAA action.
It was a see-saw battle that featured five lead changes and ties, before a wild pitch in the bottom of the tenth scored co-captain Kyle Brink for the winning run.
Bud ‘All-World’ Wilborn lived up to his nickname for Gold, pitching three scoreless innings to earn the win, while finding the time to go 2-4 from the plate with two runs scored.
Not to be outdone, Daniel Kirschler went 3-3 with a run scored, while Matt Jones chipped in 2 hits and a run in the Gold win.
Chris Guyer led the way offensively for Blue, going 2-4 with three runs scored to go along with three runs batted in.
Co captain Michael Cavazos finished 2-4 with an RBI in the Blue loss, while Lawson Cheek looked strong in relief, allowing just one run in four innings on the mound.
With one game in the books, things are just now beginning to heat up between two rival s in a series as steeped in tradition as CCU baseball itself.

May 9, 2007—CCU baseball is proud to announce that senior catcher Pat Garcia (Salinas, CA) and senior pitcher Justin Quador (Littleton, CO) have been named to the 2007 All-RMAC Honorable Mention team.
Garcia averaged a team-high .365 at the plate this season, while starting all 53 games for the Cougars and leading the team in every significant offensive category, including runs, hits, doubles, RBI’s and home runs.
Quador, a transfer from Division I Northern Colorado, notched a team-high 5 wins for the Cougars, posting an ERA of 5.92 and striking out 28 batters on the year. Justin punctuated a fantastic career with CCU on May 4th, going the distance in an improbable 5-4 upset over regionally ranked New Mexico Highlands University.
Congratulations to both Pat and Justin for your hard work and leadership, and to everyone else who helped make the 2007 baseball season a success!
