Cougars Ink Three Standouts for Upcoming Season

Cougar VolleyballDecember 11, 2008—The CCU volleyball team recently announced the early signing of three top prospects, Andi Weber, Kim McCalmont and Megan McManus, who will join the Cougars for the 2009-2010 season.

Weber, a 5’11” middle blocker from Cherry Creek High School in Aurora, Colorado, helped the Bruins to an unblemished record of 31-0 this past season, including the 5A State Championship. Andi earned both all-conference and all-state honorable mention recognition as a senior and has also been a member of three consecutive Junior Olympic teams.

“Andi’s skill and championship experience will help her step in as a freshman and make an immediate impact,” stated head coach Aimee Davison. “Offensively, she will give us a new energy, strength and consistency.  Andi is a great kid and the perfect fit for CCU.”

Joining Weber is Kim McCalmont, a 6’0” outside hitter from Granite Hills High School in El Cajon, California.

McCalmont led Granite Hills to a conference championship in 2007, while earning first-team all league honors, the coaches award and ranking first on the team in both kills and blocks.

Regarding the signing, Davison stated that, “Kim brings a rich volleyball background to our team, and at 6’0” will help fill the big shoes left behind by Cassie Schott.  She has a tremendously high ceiling and has the potential to be one of the best outside hitters in the RMAC.”

Rounding out the list of early signees for 2009 is McManus, a 5’11” setter from Grossmont High School in Spring Valley, California.

Megan is a three year varsity letterman for Grossmont, and has helped the Fighting Foothillers to three conference championships, while being recognized as team MVP and first team all-league for two seasons.

“I’m excited to see what Megan will do at CCU and in the RMAC,” added Davison. “I believe she has the ability as both a setter and a hitter to help guide our team to the next level.”
