April 21, 2008—CCU freshman Jessica Lauer put together two strong rounds this weekend, capturing an impressive eighth place finish at the RMAC Championships in Silver City, New Mexico.
Lauer logged an 81 and 82 on the par 72 course, finishing at 163 (+19) in a three way tie with Maggie Cole of Mesa State and Kaitlin Parker of Western Washington.
Sophomore, Tedi Thorne, strung together rounds of 89 and 90 to finish with a 179 (+35) at 24 overall in the field of 54.
As a team, the Cougars landed an 11th place finish with combined scores of 443 and 444 (887) in the 2008 season finale.
April 1, 2008—CCU sophomore Tedi Thorne, won her first event of the year, while freshman Jessica Lauer finished in ninth place overall Tuesday afternoon at the Regis Invitational at Fox Hollow Golf Course in Lakewood, Colorado. Final Results
Thorne demolished the competition, finishing with a commanding seven stroke lead (77, 76-153) over second place Maggie Cole (77, 83-160) of Mesa State.
Cole and Thorne were tied at 77 each heading into today’s round, before Tedi put on a clinic with a round of 76 on the par 71 to pull away with the win.
Lauer ranked seventh overall after logging an 84 (+13) on day one, before turning in an 85 in today’s round to hold on to a ninth place finish in the competitive field.
October 10, 2007—Freshman Jessica Laurer and sophomore Tedi Thorne, combined to lead the CCU women’s golf team to a sixth place finish at the Quality Inn Maverick Invite in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Thorne’s consistency continued for CCU, as the super soph rattled off back-to-back scores of 84, finishing with a 168 and earning her third consecutive top-ten finish.
Laurer continued her impressive rookie campaign for the Cougars. The freshman tallied a 91 on day one, before rebounding to post an 85 on day two, logging a combined score of 176 and earning a 12th place finish tied with Emily Einfeldt of Regis University.
The once struggling women’s golf team is looking more impressive with each and every tournament, and now heads into the spring season with plenty of confidence and a ton of momentum.
October 2, 2007—CCU sophomore Tedi Thorne, landed ninth place in a 59 player field, golfing an 81 and an 80 (+19), and leading the Cougars to tenth at the Grizzly Invite in Alamosa, Colorado.
The Cougars concluded day one of action tied with CSU-Pueblo for eighth place, thanks to a respectable combined score of 371.
Thorne and freshman stand out, Jessica Laurer paced CCU during Monday’s round, each logging an 81 and earning an 11th place standing heading into day two.
While Thorne’s game remained steady, the rest of the Cougar clubs sputtered a bit during Tuesday’s round. By days end, the ladies had lost ground to Pueblo (+159), Adams State (+163) and Regis (+175), after tallying a combined score of 379 to finish at +182.
Laurer’s round two total of 85 was good enough for a 17th place finish, while senior Adrienne Owens earned a spot at 41 by posting back-to-back rounds of 94 (+46).
The much-improved Cougars ended the event 34 strokes ahead of 11th place Montana State-Billings, who finished the two-day extravaganza with a grand total of 784 (+216).
September 19, 2007—CCU freshman Jessica Lauer stormed into a third place finish at the Regis Invitational this past Tuesday, golfing a tournament-low 73 and leading the Cougars to an eight place finish over both Regis and CSU-Pueblo at Fox Hollow Golf Course in Lakewood.
Lauer stood tied for 12th place with an 82 (39-43) after day one of competition, but put on a show Tuesday afternoon when she erupted for the final score of 73, moving up nine whole places in the 45-player field to finish tied for third place with a combined score of 155.
Sophomore Tedi Thorne earned tenth place on the event, turning in scores of 79 and 82 (161) and marking the first time in recent memory that the ladies have finished two golfers in the top ten.
The Cougars combined score of 715 put them safely ahead of tenth place CSU-Pueblo (735) and proved to be just enough to edge out ninth place Regis who rounded out the two-day event with a 716.
September 12, 2007—The CCU women’s golf team held on for a tenth place finish this week at the always competitive UNK Invitational in Kearney, Nebraska.
As a team the Cougars combine for scores of 409 and 407 (816) and finished only 31 strokes behind ninth place Regis, who totaled 785 over two rounds.
Tedi Thorne held off the sophomore slump and picked up where she left off as a freshman, golfing a consistent 88 and 87 (175) to earn 16th place on the event.
Sophomore Adrienne Owens (97, 100) and freshman Jessica Laurer (94, 103) ended the competition tied at 197, a score which proved good enough for a 37th place finish.
The ladies now look to build on their success when they tee off at the Regis Invitational this September 18th and 19th.
