A four year letterman out of Flowing Wells High School, Corona earned back-to-back All-Arizona Second Team awards, while leading her team to a class 5AII State Championship in 2006-07, as well as a 5AII State Runner up award in 2005-06.

April 21, 2008—On March 20 the CCU women’s soccer team traveled to Uganda and proceeded to spend their spring break ministering to orphans and widows. The team partnered with the non-profit organization The Children of the Nile (TCON) and served the people of Uganda in various ways for ten days.
On Easter the women’s soccer team ministered at a TCON hospice for terminally ill widows who were HIV positive as a result of their unfaithful husbands contracting the disease and passing it to their wives. The team brought pedicure kits complete with lotions and nail polish of the women. They gave the women pedicures, massaged their arms, and gave them new flip-flops.
“TCON’s hospice gives the women a place to die with some integrity,” stated Tammy Wishard, head women’s soccer coach. “Really, we just spent the whole day reaching out and loving them. TCON said that just doing that put five years on their life because of the love that we communicated to them. There was one lady who had been there five months and we were her first visitors.”
The team also left their mark on the country through spending time with orphans in Uganda. The children enjoyed a carnival filled with prizes and an Easter egg hunt which the soccer team hosted. Due to an overage of fundraising they were also able to feed 700 children.
The trip was made possible due to the generous donations and the commitment of team members to fundraising. The majority of the money came in through donation letters which explained what TCON was and the purpose of the trip. In donations alone, the team was able to raise about $28,000.
Other fundraisers brought in the rest of the money for the trip. Fifty soccer balls were donated in chapel and the team had an all-you-can-eat fundraiser night at Johnny Carino’s.
The team affected Uganda in many positive ways, and likewise they were changed as a result of the trip.
Aside from team bonding, the trip contributed to personal and spiritual growth. The purpose of the trip was to fulfill scripture through reaching out to the poor. This process was enlightening to the team as well as stimulating. Team members expressed amazement over the extreme poverty that they witnessed first-hand while in Uganda.
“Going in I thought there would be some nice parts of Uganda, but it’s all just complete poverty, as far as you can see its just poverty. The fact that those people are so joyful all the time and they don’t have anything compared to what we have, it doesn’t make sense that they seem to be happier than we are,” stated freshman Kaylan Bearden.
November 9, 2007—The postseason awards just keep pouring in from another wildly successful women’s soccer season. This time it is the NCCAA acknowledging the on-field excellence of both Kim Secrest and Alison Cox, as each standout athlete received the coveted NCCAA All-Region award.
Secrest, a junior defender extraordinaire from Los Alamos, New Mexico, topped the list earning NCCAA First-Team All-Region recognition. Kim has proven herself to be one of the top defenders in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, and capped off the 2007-08 season with a Second-Team All-RMAC nod.
Cox, the irresistible force in the net for the Cougars, finished first in the RMAC and third in Division II with 11 saves per game. The numbers and the sheer dominance against some of the nation’s top programs also proved good enough for NCCAA Second-Team All-Region recognition.
Congratulations to Kim and Alison and to the entire women’s soccer team for another entertaining and competitive fall season.
October 31, 2007—CCU junior defender Kim Secrest, has been named Second Team all-RMAC for her outstanding efforts during the 2007-08 season.
One of the top athletes at CCU, Kim has started each and every game for the Cougars since her freshman debut.
Secrest is a team and conference standout at the defender position and was recently named to the RMAC all-academic first team for her success on the field as well as her 3.95 GPA in psychology.
October 28, 2007—Courtney Jones and Michelle Reed scored two unanswered second half goals to lead the Adams State Grizzlies to a 2-1 victory (box score) over CCU Sunday afternoon at Colorado Christian.
The Cougars controlled the tempo for the majority of the first half, and eventually jumped ahead 1-0 six minutes before halftime, when Kaylan Bearden hammered a Jessica Smith assist into the top right corner of the goal from 18 yards out.
The tide began to turn in the visitors favor after the break, as Adams possessed the ball for a good portion of the second half and ultimately knotted things up when Courtney Jones converted a CCU turnover in the box into the Grizzlies first goal of the game with 65:10 showing on the game clock.
Michelle Reed tacked on what would be the game winner twenty thrilling minutes later, as she streaked up the far side of the field and fired in ASC’s second goal of the afternoon on a breakaway.
CCU had one last chance to send the contest into overtime, but a wide open attempt by Bailey Bloom was stuffed by Grizzly goalie Brooke Sorrell with 15 seconds remaining, as Adams held on for the 2-1 decision.
The Cougars held a slight edge offensively, posting 10 shots on goal to ASC’s seven.
With the loss, CCU ends the season at 3-9-0 in conference play, while Adams improves to 1-10-1 and 3-14-2 overall.
October 26, 2007—The Metro State Roadrunners posted 18 shots on goal in a 5-0 victory (box score) over the CCU women’s soccer team Friday afternoon at Metro State.
The Roadrunners scored four unanswered goals in the first half and tacked on one more in the second, while accumulating 23 total shots to CCU’s one.
CCU net minder Alison Cox collected 13 saves for the Cougars in the loss.
The ladies now return home to prepare for the final game of the season this Sunday versus Adams State at 1:00 p.m.
October 22, 2007—Sara Egbom scored two goals for Fort Lewis College Monday morning, leading the Skyhawks to an impressive 4-1 victory (box score) over the Cougars at CCU.
The Cougars got on the board first when Ashley Yearout pounded in a Kaylan Bearden miss to put CCU ahead 1-0 with eight minutes remaining in the first half.
The CCU lead would last only five short minutes, as Egbom scored the first of her two goals on the afternoon by firing in a Kim Sisneros corner kick to tie it all up 1-1 heading into intermission.
CCU had no answer for the Skyhawk offensive assault in the second half, as Egbom, Ginny Maddox and Kelli Love each tacked on a goal to lead Fort Lewis to the convincing 4-1 decision.
The Cougars were outshot 29-4 on the game, with Alison Cox tallying 11 saves in the CCU loss.
Next up for the ladies is a trip to cross-town rival Metro State this Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
October 19, 2007—CCU’s super freshman Jessica Smith, headed in a Cassidy Fightmaster assist to score the game’s lone goal and lead the Cougars to a 1-0 victory (box score) over Mesa State Friday afternoon at Colorado Christian.
Defense dominated the first half of action, as both teams went into the break combining for only seven shots after 45 scoreless minutes of excitement.
The offensive intensity heated up in the second half, starting when Smith’s header found the back of the net at the 73:20 mark to put the Cougars uncomfortably ahead 1-0.
Mesa’s offense went into extra gears after that, playing with a sense of desperation and managing a host of shots on the Cougar defense with time winding down.
Fortunately the CCU defenders buckled down to deflect each Maverick attempt. The thrilling final minutes culminated when another athletic Alison Cox save the left trusty Cougar goal keeper out of position for a rebound shot.
Mesa’s Alina Hartfield fired what would have been the game tying goal, yet, with overtime hanging in the balance, defender extraordinaire, Kim Secrest, came out of nowhere to deflect the ball out of the center of the action and spoil one of the final Maverick opportunities as CCU held on for the 1-0 victory.
Cox logged her second shut-out of the year, grabbing seven saves in 90 minutes of play.
With the win, CCU improves to 3-7-0 in conference play and looks to make it two in a row this Sunday when they host the Fort Lewis Skyhawks at 1:00 p.m.
October 17, 2007—Kayla Mitchell fired in the game winner at 73:03 for Colorado Mines, breaking a 1-1 tie (box score) and leading the Orediggers to a 2-1 victory in a Wednesday afternoon slugfest at CCU.
The Orediggers went into the half clinging to a 1-0 lead thanks to a crafty shot by Ashley Wagener that snuck into the top left corner of the net with 39:32 on the clock.
Carly Nixon knotted it all up for the Cougars, when she blasted in a free kick that brought the Cougar faithful to their feet only three minutes into the second half’s action.
Both teams hunkered down defensively and the game remained scoreless for another 25 minutes, until Mitchell was able to tack on the definitive point off of an Adrea Johnson and Kelsey Lang assist.
Cougar keeper, Alison Cox, continued to add to her already impressive numbers, racking up 14 saves, while facing a grand total of 29 Mines shots on the afternoon.
The Cougars are back in action this Friday when they host the Mavericks of Mesa State at 11:00 a.m.
October 16, 2007—CCU defender Kim Secrest, has been recently named to the prestigious RMAC All-Academic First Team.
In addition to being one of the top defenders in the conference, the junior from Los Alamos, New Mexico, has also found success in the classroom, earning a cumulative grade point average of 3.95 in Psychology.
To qualify for Academic All-RMAC First Team, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.20 or better, and be a top player on their individual team. RMAC sports information directors select first and second team awards, taking into account the student-athletes entire resume, including success in the classroom and dominance on the soccer field.
Other award winners this year include CCU’s Harmony Bischof, Samantha Dean, Ashley Yearout and Carly Nixon. While not making the first team selection, each was nominated to the RMAC Honor Roll for their hard work on and off the field. As a group, these four combined to average a stellar GPA of 3.45.
October 12, 2007—Robin Hayes scored two second half goals to lead the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves to a 2-0 victory (box score) over the Cougars Friday afternoon in Pueblo, Colorado.
Alison Cox led a stalwart defensive effort for the Cougars, snagging a career-high 18 saves and holding the Thunderwolves scoreless until 54:31 in the second half, when Hayes finally found the net for CSU-P.
Hayes tacked on one more a short eight minutes later thanks to a Jeanna Barnes assist, as the Thunderwolves sent the Cougars packing with the 2-0 decision.
CCU fired 10 shots on the afternoon, seven of them on goal, with Jessica Smith and Carly Nixon leading the way with two each.
The ladies fall to 2-5-0 in RMAC play and now return home to face the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers this Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
October 8, 2007—The super sophomore tandem of Ashley Yearout and Samantha Dean combined for three goals Monday afternoon, propelling the Cougars to a 3-0 victory (box score) over the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans at Colorado Christian.
It didn’t take long for the Cougar offensive onslaught to begin, as Yearout powered in her first goal of the season just over three minutes into the game thanks to an Amber Carey assist.
At the 19:43 mark, Dean blew by a would-be defender on the deep left side of the net, creating enough space to fire a nifty shot past Trevecca keeper Kimberly Price to put the Cougars ahead 2-0 going into the half.
Yearout capped off the shutout, by tacking on the final goal of the afternoon with three minutes remaining, when she fired off an un-saveable power shot that tucked neatly into the right corner of the goal to put the ladies safely ahead 3-0.
The Cougars outshot Trevecca 27-9, with CCU goalie, Alison Cox, netting six saves in her first shutout of the year.
Next up for the ladies is a rematch with CSU-Pueblo. The Cougars hope to avenge a disappointing 5-3 loss to the Thunderwolves one short week ago, when they square off at Pueblo this Friday at 1:00 p.m.
October 5, 2007—Regis University avenged a road loss at CCU two short weeks ago, by downing the Cougars 6-0 (box score) Friday afternoon at Regis.
The Rangers got on the board at the 16 minute mark when Kelsey Hovden pounded through her third goal of the year to put the hosts ahead 1-0.
Regis would then go on to tack on one more in the first half and four more in the second to cruise to the 6-0 decision.
Alison Cox snagged nine saves for CCU in the loss.
Next up for the ladies is a home date with Trevecca Nazarene this Monday at 3:00 p.m.
October 3, 2007—Robin Hays and Erica Warmack each scored twice for CSU-Pueblo, as the Thunderwolves jumped out to a 4-0 halftime lead and held off a second half Cougar rally to escape with a 5-3 decision (box score) Wednesday afternoon at Colorado Christian.
Pueblo’s Jeanna Barnes got the scoring underway early in the first half, when she tapped in the game’s first goal off of a Sheena Reimherr assist only six minutes into the game.
The Thunderwolves would then go on to tack on three more unanswered before the break and seemed to be cruising to the blowout.
CCU’s Samantha Dean had other plans however, and detonated in the second half for two consecutive goals to bring the Cougars to within striking distance at 4-2.
Not to be outdone, Warmack logged her second of the game at the 65:19 mark by sneaking a chip shot past the CCU defense; effectively dousing the Cougar momentum and putting the Thunderwolves comfortably ahead 5-3.
The Cougars made it interesting once again when Alexandra Williams dazzled fans with a brilliant one-on-one move that freed her for an unassisted goal with seven minutes remaining.
Unfortunately that would be as close as CCU would make it, as time ran out on the Cougar comeback bid, and Pueblo rolled to the 5-3 victory.
Pueblo edged the Cougars 18-16 in shot attempts, with CCU goalie, Alison Cox, grabbing eight saves in the loss.
The ladies now gear up for the season’s second showdown against Regis University. The Rangers fell 3-2 to CCU on September 21, and will be looking for revenge this Friday at Regis. Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
September 26, 2007—The Fort Lewis Skyhawks found the net five times Wednesday afternoon, in a 5-1 dismantling (box score) of the CCU women’s soccer team in Durango, Colorado.
Fort Lewis broke open a scoreless match at the 32 minute mark, when Jessica Otero notched her first goal of the season by nailing a kick from the opposite side of the center line that bounced over CCU keeper Alison Cox’s head.
The Skyhawks would then go on to rattle off four more goals in the second, beginning a short two minutes into the half as Sara Egbom slipped a rebound goal past the defense and into the net.
CCU’s Jessica Smith tallied her fifth goal of the season with one minute remaining, by thumping in a rebound goal of her own to derail the Skyhawk shutout.
Once again Cox stayed busy, logging 17 saves in the loss, and adding to her already impressive average of 11.25 saves per game - a number that ranks her second nationally.
The Cougars have a much needed week off, before returning to action next Wednesday when they host the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves at 4:00 p.m.
September 23, 2007—Becca Mays and Katie Kilbey each scored two goals, leading the nation’s fifth ranked Metro State Roadrunners to a decisive 7-0 decision (box score) over CCU Sunday afternoon at Cougar Field.
Justine Montoya got things going early for the Roadrunners, when she fired in the game’s opening goal off of a centering pass from Gabby Klipp at the 20:08 mark.
Metro’s Kilbey tallied her 10th goal of the season a short five minutes later, by floating in a breakaway goal over the outstretched hands of Cougar keeper, Alison Cox.
Nine minutes after that, Kilbey made it two in a row when she converted a Montoya pass into another nifty floater that gave the Roadrunners a 3-0 lead heading into the half.
Becca Mays went to work after the break, keeping Metro safely ahead by scoring two of the Roadrunner’s four second half goals.
Mays’ first goal came only three minutes into the action when a soft attempt slipped through the normally trusty hands of Alison Cox.
Following an Amanda Nance rebound goal, Mays converted a breakaway 2 on 1 attempt to put the visitors ahead 6-0 with 62:12 on the clock.
Finally, Caitlin Oliver put the finishing touches on the victory by tapping in an Ashley Munchiando assist to give Metro the final 7-0 decision.
Jessica Smith fired two shots on goal for CCU, while Alison Cox posted 14 saves on the game.
CCU is back in action this Wednesday as they travel to Fort Lewis College for a non-conference affair with the Skyhawks. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
September 21, 2007—Friends and family of CCU women’s soccer were on hand for a thriller Friday afternoon and the women’s soccer team did not disappoint. Cougar goalie, Alison Cox, seemed to get a hand on everything that came her way, posting 15 saves on the game and leading the ladies to a 3-2 victory (box score) over the Regis Rangers at Colorado Christian.
The Cougar offense, led by freshman phenom Jessica Smith, was hitting on all cylinders early, as Smith put CCU on the board at the 25:36 mark with an unassisted floater that sailed over the outstretched hands of Regis keeper Holly Redmond.
A short five minutes before the half, Smith tacked on the games second goal and the fourth of her career when she fired in an Alexandra Williams miss to put the Cougars up 2-0.
Regis would not go down easily however, and Alyson Russell shifted the momentum back to the visitors when she chipped in a goal of her own off of a Danielle Lardner assist to make the contest 2-1 five minutes into the second half.
The Rangers seemed in control for the better part of the final period, but shot after shot was stifled by the herculean efforts of junior Cougar goalie extraordinaire – Alison Cox.
Cox was in the zone all afternoon, making one acrobatic save after another and fueling the Cougars confidence with her other-worldly play.
Clinging to the 2-1 advantage, the Cougars were able to give Alison a break and generate some offense of their own. That is when freshman Jillian Rocha came alive. Rocha fired a shot on goal that was blocked by Redmond, but the ball fell right back into the possession of Rocha and on the second effort she squeezed it through the Ranger D.
Heidi Boersma put the Rangers within striking distance at 3-2, when she converted an Ashley Daniel corner kick at the 89:18 mark, but it was not enough as time ticked off the clock and CCU held on for the victory in front of a raucous crowd of supporters.
The ladies now gear up for one of the top teams in the nation this Sunday, as they host the Roadrunners of Metro State at 3:00 p.m.
September 16, 2007—The Mesa State Mavericks scored two quick goals in the first half and added one more in the second half to roll to a 3-0 victory (box score) over the CCU women’s soccer team Sunday afternoon in Grand Junction, Colorado.
The games opening goal came thanks to a Kira Brannan penalty kick with 30:48 on the game clock.
Stephanie Lee made it 2-0 for Mesa less than two minutes later when she fired a heater to the lower left corner of the net.
With nine minutes to play in the second half, Deborah Benson capped off Mesa’s offensive assault by sneaking an unassisted shot past Cougar keeper Alison Cox.
Cox stifled 12 Maverick attempts on the afternoon, but the ladies found themselves on the wrong end of a 15-4 shots on goal discrepancy.
The ladies try to get back on the winning track this Friday, when they kick off an afternoon double header versus Regis at 1:00 p.m. The men follow shortly after at 3:00 p.m.
September 14, 2007—Three quick first half goals by Eastern New Mexico proved to be too much for the CCU women’s soccer team to overcome, as the Zia’s held on for a 3-1 victory (box score) Friday afternoon at Colorado Christian.
ENMU survived an early scare from the Cougars, as a CCU goal was taken off the boards by an offside call just two minutes into the action.
Shortly after, the Zia’s jumped up 1-0 when Samantha Lawrence converted a Cougar turnover into the games first points, as she fired an unassisted shot through the top left corner of the net a mere four minutes into play.
No more than ten minutes later, Eastern’s Kimberly Anaya floated a free kick to the center of the box, finding Amy Wilcox who chipped it through the Cougar defense to give the Zia’s a two goal advantage.
Hillary Gintowt extended the lead to 3-0 for the visitors, when she centered a pass for Lawrence who knocked home her second goal of the afternoon and third of the season at the 20:58 mark of the first half.
Not going down without a fight, freshman Jessica Smith gave the Cougars life fourteen minutes into the final period, by converting a Cassidy Fightmaster corner kick and cutting the ENMU lead down to two goals.
The Cougars outshot ENMU 8-3 after the break, and held the Zia’s scoreless for the remainder of the contest, but it was too little too late, as CCU failed to convert on some great scoring opportunities late in the game and succumbed to the 3-1 decision.
Statistically the match was relatively even, as ENMU managed 14 shots to CCU’s 12, with Alison Cox racking up six saves in the loss.
The loss drops CCU to 1-4-0 overall, while the Zias improve to 5-2-0.
Next up for CCU is a trip to the unfriendly confines of Mesa State College. The ladies are scheduled to square off with the Maverick’s this Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
September 9, 2007—Carly Nixon's 52nd minute free kick goal proved to be the game-winner, as CCU held on for a 2-1 win (box score) over the Adams State College Grizzlies Sunday afternoon in Alamosa, Colorado.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead into the half, thanks to an Amber Carey header from 15 yards out, set up by a brilliant Samantha Dean cross at the 21 minute mark.
A short six minutes into the second half, Nixon tacked on the second goal and ultimately the game winner for the Cougars off of her patented free kick from the top left corner of the box.
The Grizzlies got on the board in the second half, when Ashley Sales tucked an unassisted shot into the left half of the net at the 74:05 mark.
It would not be enough however, as Cougar keeper Alison Cox continued her stellar play, deflecting nine saves in 90 minutes of action, as the Cougars walked away with their first win of the young season.
With the win, the ladies earn the split on a tough road series and now return home to face the Zia’s of Easter New Mexico University this Friday at 12:00 p.m.
September 7, 2007—Cougar net minder Alison Cox posted a performance for the ages Friday afternoon, when she snagged an unbelievable 17 saves for CCU in a 2-1 loss (box score) at New Mexico Highlands.
Jeanette Ortiz got things going for New Mexico Highlands, when she scored her second goal of the season 20 minutes into the action off of a Corey Strickland assist.
The Cougars battled back when freshman sensation Jessica Smith scored her first career goal at the 30 minute mark to knot the contest up at one each.
A short 13 minutes later, Lativa Harash became the hero of the afternoon, as she pounded home an unassisted goal to give Highlands the 2-1 advantage and ultimately the victory.
The CCU women were outshot 27-8 on the contest, including an overwhelming 19-4 shots on goal disparity.
Still looking for the first win of the season, the ladies make the trip to Alamosa this Sunday to face the Grizzlies of Adams State. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
September 5, 2007—Alyson Burchardt scored the games lone goal off of a corner kick with only 10 minutes remaining in regulation, helping the Colorado Mines Orediggers escape with a 1-0 decision (box score) over CCU Wednesday night in Golden, Colorado.
Freshman Jessica Smith highlighted the Cougar’s offensive statistics, notching two shots on goal, while goal keeper Alison Cox kept the Cougars competitive with 10 saves on the evening.
Mines fired 11 shots on goal to CCU’s four, with Burchardt managing five shots and Ann Newman chipping in two.
The Cougars have little time to despair, as they pack their bags and head for Las Vegas, New Mexico for an RMAC bout with the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls this Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
August 28, 2007—Northern State’s Kendra Titze spoiled the season opener for the CCU women’s soccer team, as she pounded home a rebound goal four minutes into the afternoon’s second overtime to steal a victory and give the Wolves a 2-1 victory (box score) over the Cougars Tuesday afternoon.
Carly Nixon got things rolling early for CCU when she sailed home the game’s first goal on a free kick a mere 12 minutes into the action.
Clinging to a 1-0 lead, CCU battled the Wolves evenly for the majority of the second half, but was unable to stop a breakaway goal at the 57 minute mark when Kirsten Saunders assisted Maggie Fedor for a perfect header to knot the contest up at one apiece.
After struggling through a scoreless regulation and overtime period, the Wolves ultimately closed the deal in the second overtime when Cougar goalie Alison Cox made an acrobatic save on a KaSara Sutton shot on goal, only to watch the game slip away when Titze followed up the loose ball for the game winner with five minutes remaining.
The Wolves outshot the Cougars 19-12 on the afternoon, including a seven to two advantage in double overtime.
Next up for CCU is a trip to Colorado Mines on September 5th for the beginning of the RMAC regular season. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
August 17, 2007—Fans of CCU soccer had to double check their programs Friday afternoon as freshman forward Jessica Smith, number 13, put on an offensive clinic. In her collegiate debut, Smith scored two of the Cougars three goals, leading the ladies to a 3-0 exhibition shutout over the Midland Lutheran Warriors.
The Cougars took a 1-0 advantage into halftime thanks to a powerful Carly Nixon goal off of a free kick a mere six minutes into the first half.
Coming out in the second half, Smith took the game into her own hands. She followed up a breakaway one on two goal at the 48 minute mark with another dazzling display of offensive prowess, juking defenders and setting herself up for a chip shot with three minutes remaining off of a Nixon assist.
On the afternoon, the Cougars matched the Warriors with 14 shots apiece, with CCU goalie Alison Cox nabbing seven saves in the win.
The official season opener kicks off on August 28th, when the ladies host the Northern State Wolves at 3:00 p.m.
May 23, 2007—Three women’s soccer players, joined by head coach Tammy Wishard, gave up their spring break this past March to assist a humanitarian relief effort led by The Children of the Nile (TCON) organization, helping displaced widows and orphans in the Soroti district of Uganda, Africa.
Coach Wishard, freshman midfielder Cheran Stewart, freshman forward Samantha Dean and freshman defender Carly Nixon began the week by planting 1000 shrubs at a local TCON hospice, before visiting an orphanage of approximately 60 kids.
“My players and I brought jerseys, medals and soccer balls for every student at the orphanage. We also brought Polaroid cameras and took pictures of each student in their jersey, holding their medal and soccer ball. Next, we provided foam frames for them to glue their picture to and decorate to their liking. They loved being able to see a picture of themselves and I'm sure they will keep it for quite awhile,” said coach Wishard.
Later in the week, the athletes drove to over 20 schools, passing out soccer balls to the chants of ‘muzoongo bring da ball, muzoongo bring da ball.’ The ladies wrapped up the trip working a seed distribution, which assists in relieving hunger, while helping widows generate enough income to support their family.
“It was completely amazing. When we pulled up in the car hundreds of widows were chanting, raising their flags, dancing and singing songs,” added Wishard.
