YTM (Youth Ministry)
YTM 101 Young Life Ministry Skills (3) To present
practical ministry skills tools. The course seeks to connect the
'why' and the 'how' of the application of relational ministry
with students that are consistent with Christ's style of ministry.
YTM 201 Foundations of Youth Ministry (3) Biblical
foundations and objectives of youth ministry and its role
in the local church; qualifications of youth leaders.
YTM 202 Spiritual Formation in Youth Ministry (3)
Processes of spiritual formation integrated into a model of
psychosocial development for adolescence.
YTM 203 Personal Spiritual Formation (3) Our task in
this course is to recover the centrality of prayer and spirituality
for life and ministry. This will involve the acquisition of an
ascetic (a rule of life) that will be organic, not imposed, uniquely
appropriate to each student's personality and vocation. The
course presents a comprehensive, integrating, and Christocentric
framework of Christian spirituality into which the various spiritual
disciplines are fit.
YTM 204 Youth Program Administration (3) Approaches
to building a church or parachurch ministry. Elements of multilevel
youth ministry for edification and evangelism.
YTM 205 Discipleship: Mentoring Adolescents (3) This course
will help students develop a vision and a plan of action for middle
school and/or high school students as well as volunteer leaders
they are discipling in the areas of spiritual and ministry growth.
They will develop and be exposed to creative ways to mentor disciples
in light of individual maturity and thirst.
YTM 310 Cross-Cultural Ministry to Adolescents (3) An investigation
into what it means to minister outside of one's culture, both
ethnically and from one country and/or region to another (eff. India).
YTM 320 Urban Youth Ministries (3) Developing effective
cross-cultural ministries with inner-city youth.
YTM 321 Leading Ministry Teams (3) This course will explore
the personal development of a leader in the framework of biblical story.
Students will learn how to develop and lead a team in an atmosphere of
trust. The course will help students identify the gifts and callings
of individuals and create structure that will encourage those gifts.
YTM 330 Pedagogy and Curriculum Development in Youth
Ministry (3) Teaching methods and Christian education
for youth programs. Prerequisites: COM 110 or equivalent and
BIB 230.
YTM 340 Youth Culture and Evangelism (3) Contemporary
influences on the youth culture; methods of reaching youth.
YTM 350 Youth Internship (1-12) Field experience in
youth ministry. Pass/Fail; may be repeated for credit.
YTM 390 Directed Study (1-3) Guided independent investigation
of a topic selected in consultation with the major or minor
advisor. See Academic Policies for guidelines. Graded; may
be repeated for credit.
YTM 401 Youth Relationship Dynamics (3) Counseling
approaches and relational models for effective ministry with
youth, principles of interpersonal communication.
YTM 402 Contemporary Youth Problems (3) Personal,
social, and spiritual problems of contemporary adolescents;
development of counseling strategies. Prerequisite: YTM 401
or PSY 304.
YTM 410 Theological Issues in Youth Ministry (3)
Opportunity for youth ministry majors to formulate and defend theological
conclusions and approaches to moral dilemmas facing youth
today. Prerequisite: THE 201.
YTM 420 Leadership in Youth Ministry (3) Training
volunteers and working with staff members in the local church
setting.
YTM 450 Youth Internship (1-12) Field experience
in youth ministry. Pass/Fail; may
be repeated for credit.
YTM 490 Directed Study (1-3) Guided independent investigation
of a topic selected in consultation with the major or minor
advisor. See Academic Policies for guidelines. Graded; may
be repeated for credit.
YTM 497 Special Topics (1-3) Guided group investigation
and discussion of a selected topic. Graded; may be repeated
for credit.
YTM 498 Teaching Assistantship (1) Supervised and
limited preparation and delivery of lectures, tutoring of
students, laboratory preparation, and assisting in the preparation
and grading of examinations. Pass/Fail; may be repeated for
credit.
