4-8-4: History

In the history major, students develop a broad understanding of religious, American, European and nonwestern history. Emphasis is also placed on historical inquiry—the art of doing history. The program is designed to assist students in developing a Christian perspective of history. Upon graduation, students are prepared to pursue graduate studies in history, law, ministry, as well as a variety of administrative and service careers in Christian social service agencies, relief ministries, civil service and government agencies, and public administration.

Requirements

The Bachelor of Arts in history requires a minimum of 128 semester hours, including all general education and biblical studies requirements and the following courses in the major. Up to 6 hours of History major courses may also meet general education requirements in behavioral and social sciences.

Advanced Courses:
In addition to the core, History majors are required to complete 27 semester hours of upper division courses. A minimum of 3 hours is required from each of the following areas: American History, European History, and Non-western History. Up to six hours may be taken from a cognate area approved by the history major coordinator. Cognate courses must be upper-division.
