The Bachelor of Music - Music Education degree prepares graduates to teach music from kindergarten through twelfth grade in choral, instrumental, or general music. Major requirements are mandated by the state of Colorado and are changed periodically. See your advisor for details. Students completing this program will be eligible for licensure in K12 music education when they graduate. Students will also be prepared to begin graduate studies.
The Bachelor of Music - Music Education requires 140 semester hours including 41 hours of Teacher Education Program core courses, 37 hours of general education and biblical studies courses specified below, 41 hours of music education courses, and a 21 hour emphasis of courses in choral, instrumental, or general music. Students must take MUA 130 Piano Class (1) in consecutive semesters until MUA 230 Piano Proficiency (0) is passed. Completion of the degree generally requires four-and-one-half years of study.

the general education requirement in the humanities, and the general education
requirement for proficiency in a foreign language is waived.
MUS 324 History of Music II is substituted for a second history course
in the general education requirements. MUS
410 World Music (2) counts as one of the social sciences requirements. A
minimum of a C- in MUS 111 Basic
Musicianship (2) or a passing grade on the Music Theory Entrance Exam is
prerequisite for entrance into MUS 112
Music Theory I (3). MUA 175 Music
Convocation is required of all music education majors for eight semesters.
Piano class requirements vary in order to pass Piano Proficiency. Only one
ensemble credit each semester counts toward the requirements for the major.
