Special Tuition for Active Duty Military and Dependents

Special Tuition for Active Duty Military and DependentsCCU's College of Adult and Graduate Studies offers reduced tuition for active duty military and their adult dependents. It is now easier than ever for service members to afford an undergraduate education at Colorado Christian University.

The military tuition rate is now equivalent to the Military Tuition Assistance limit of $750 per course, which means that service members taking undergraduate classes in CCU’s College of Adult and Graduate Studies program will incur no out-of-pocket tuition costs (under the present Tuition Assistance rules). Some courses may have required fees which are unaffected by this new policy.

  1. Are all active duty military personnel eligible for the new tuition price, or only those receiving Tuition Assistance?
All active duty service members, as well as their adult dependents, are eligible for the tuition discount; not just those receiving TA.

  2. What is the definition of a ‘dependent’?
A dependent is anyone 24 years or older who can be considered a legal dependent for financial aid purposes (i.e., spouse, natural children, adopted children, etc.).

  3. What if I’m not seeking a degree? Am I still eligible?
Yes, you do not have to be a degree-seeking student, but you will have to submit an application in order to qualify for the reduced tuition rate.

  4. What “proof” do I need to provide that I am on active duty? Who do I give it to?
The Active Duty ID for both the military member and spouse will be used to confirm your status (DDFm 2 for active duty member; DDFm1173 for dependent.) If you meet with a CCU enrollment counselor at the time you submit your application, you will be asked to show your ID card. Online students who are out of the area will be asked to provide a copy of the front (picture) side of the ID card.

  5. When and how will I be able to verify that my actual tuition rate is the “active duty” rate quoted on the tuition page for my program of study?
After completing the CCU Course Registration process, you will be able to view your financial statement at your student WebAdvisor link.

  6. What “documentation” is needed to determine my tuition cost for each class for my Military Education Office in order to get my TA Vouchers created?
Each Military Education Office has his/her procedures (which may differ from each other). It is the student’s responsibility to determine what is needed.

  7. What happens when I leave the service? Will my tuition rate change after I separate from the military?
After you separate, you are no longer eligible for the military tuition rate beyond the current semester. You will be billed full tuition for all classes started in the next semester after you separate. Service members are expected to notify CCU when they discharge.

  8. If I run out of Tuition Assistance during the school year, will I still receive the reduced tuition rate for classes not covered by TA?
Yes, as long as you are still on active duty.

  9. I didn’t know about the reduced military tuition rate at the time that I registered, and I was charged the regular rate. Can I get a refund for the difference?
The proper way to handle this situation is to ask your Military Education Office to submit a new TA form. You should also be aware of the necessary procedures to follow if you’ve already submitted a copy of the TA form to the VA for Top-Up benefits.

  10. My maximum allowed TA is reached this fiscal year. Can I start taking classes at the reduced rate?
Yes. This tuition benefit is for active duty military and is not subject to the availability of the TA benefit.

  11. I didn’t know about the reduced military tuition rate, and I had my TA Voucher created for $750 TA and $201 TopUp – now what do I need to do? I already sent the TA Voucher to the VA (as my Ed Officer told me to do), so what do I do about the $201 that was deposited into my account?
We recommend that you contact the VA. If they have not already processed your reimbursement, you might be able to “withdraw” your request for the Top-Up benefit.

  12. Whose responsibility is it to update CCU’s records to show that I’m on active duty and am entitled to a discount? I was told that I would only be charged $750 for my class – so I had my TA Voucher created for only $750 – and now I’m getting charged $951 for the class.
The student is responsible to ensure that your active duty status is properly documented so that your billing will be correct. To remedy this situation, call the CAGS Student Service Center at 303- 963-3300 or 1-800-44-FAITH. A Student Service Advisor will be pleased to assist you.

If your unit is activated, you are eligible for the reduced tuition rate for any classes at CCU that start during the period you hold active duty status.

  16. Who should I contact if my bill is incorrect?

For active duty military and their adult dependents, the new $750 tuition rate is the same whether a course is take in a classroom or online; however, the additional $48 fee per credit hour for online courses is still in effect (because this is the amount CCU must pay to our service provider for each online course a student takes). Under this new policy only tuition is discounted, not course fees (e.g., lab fees).

  18. Is the application fee waived as part of this new policy?
No, the application fee is required of all new students.

  19. Does this benefit apply to CCU master’s degree courses?
