What children experience early in their education will give them a foundation that prepares them to be successful learners in the future. To address this need, CCU designed the Early Childhood Education programs to equip teachers by combining practical course work in early childhood and curriculum development with preschool administration and management training. This unique combination develops educators who are dedicated to addressing diverse learner needs with excellence through servant-leadership in their field and in society. Students in the early childhood education degree programs graduate with the skills, experience, and credentials necessary to teach preschool through third grade.
CCU is endorsed by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
The early childhood education licensure program is designed for adult students who wish to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree and a license that allows them to teach in a preschool through third-grade setting in the State of Colorado. (Colorado State teaching for elementary education licensure requires a passing score on the PLACE exam.)
The early childhood education theory program is designed for adult students who wish to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree but do not plan to teach immediately. Students may opt to obtain a license in the furture, or choose to teach in a preschool through third-grade setting that does not require licensure from the State of Colorado. Additionally, Head Start teachers may choose this option to obtain their degree. (Student teaching is not required although students are required to complete two field experience courses)
The post-baccalaureate licensure program is designed for adult students who have already completed a Bachelor of Arts degree and wish to obtain a license that allows them to teach in a preschool through third-grade setting in the State of Colorado.
Students in CCU's Early Childhood Education programs may use three courses from their program toward earning a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction (MACI). Formal application and admission to the MACI degree program is required. Students should contact their student service advisor for additional information.
