Special Needs Students

CCU’s services for students with disabilities provide support services, tools, and reasonable accommodations to enable them to fully participate in the academic environment. CCU will work with students on an individual basis and encourage them to:

  • Meet academic requirements
  • Promote self-advocacy
  • Build a network of resources
  • Create self awareness

Determination of Accommodations

Accommodations are determined through an assessment of professional documentation (within five years) which clearly identifies the student's disability. Students should submit this documentation to  CCU's Special Populations Coordinator prior to beginning their program of study in CCU's College of Adult and Graduate Studies. A Certificate of Accommodation is not retroactive and will be effective at the time issued. Students must provide professors with a copy of their Certificate of Accommodation before the start of each course.

Rights and Responsibilities

Students:

  • Provide official documentation to CCU's Life Directions Center that supports a need for accommodations.
  • Make a request to the professor in a timely manner regarding testing and classroom accommodations.
  • Need to make the necessary arrangements with their professor regarding how and where the accommodations are provided for extended time for testing.
