The Early Childhood Education programs offered through CCU’s College of Adult and Graduate Studies equip students to impact the next generation of learners. Students gain knowledge in educational theory and participate in experiential learning opportunities that put them in the classroom. This unique combination helps students develop competencies that enable them to become effective teachers in both public and private elementary schools.

Taught from a Christian worldview, CCU’s Early Childhood Education bachelor degree programs help develop educators who are dedicated to addressing diverse learner needs with excellence through servant-leadership in their field and in society. Small class sizes encourage individualized learning and networking, and allow students direct access to professors who are also professionals in the field.

Students who complete an Early Childhood Education program will have the skills, experience, and credentials necessary to teach preschool through third grade in Colorado. Only those who earn licensure will be able to teach in public schools. A background check, an interview, and a passing score on the PLACE exam are required for acceptance into this program.

B.A. Liberal Arts with Early Childhood Education Licensing

The Liberal Arts with Early Childhood Education Licensing degree is designed for adult students who wish to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree and a license that allows them to teach in a preschool through third-grade setting in the State of Colorado. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates apply to the Colorado Department of Education for a teaching license.

B.A. Liberal Arts with Early Childhood Education Theory

The Liberal Arts with Early Childhood Education Theory degree is designed for adult students who wish to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree but do not plan to teach immediately. Students may opt to obtain a license in the future, or choose to teach in a preschool through third-grade setting that does not require licensure from the State of Colorado. Additionally, Head Start teachers may choose this option to obtain their degree as well as Directors of Preschools or Early Childhood Centers. (Student teaching is not required although students are required to complete field experiences.)

Post-baccalaureate Licensing Program

The post-baccalaureate licensing program for Early Childhood Education is designed for adult students who have already completed a bachelor’s degree and wish to obtain a license that allows them to teach in a preschool through third-grade setting in the State of Colorado. The program can be completed in approximately 20 months of study, including a minimum of 16 weeks of student teaching.

Master's Degree Completion

Students in CCU's Early Childhood Education degree programs may apply three courses (9 credit hours) from their program toward earning a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction (MACI). The master teacher emphasis of the MACI degree enhances the student's teaching abilities through the study of curriculum development, program assessment, psychological foundations of teaching methods, group dynamics, and critical thinking skills.

Formal application and admission to the MACI degree program is required. Students should contact their student service advisor for additional information.
