Applying for Admission

Admission to the Master of Arts in Counseling program at Colorado Christian University is selective. Each applicant is carefully evaluated for his or her potential as a counselor and ability to contribute to the program. In the application review process, each candidate's professional, intellectual, and personal experiences are considered in relation to potential for successful graduate study.

The application for admission to CCU's Master of Arts in Counseling program is available online, giving you the flexibility to complete your application and access required documents in multiple stages.

Your first step in applying to CCU is to Create an Account. The information from this secure account will automatically be entered on your online application, simplifying the process to complete the application.

The graduate program application and fee should be submitted electronically. Please print copies of required documents as necessary and submit them to Colorado Christian University, College of Adult and Graduate Studies Admission.

If you have any questions, please contact your CCU Enrollment Counselor to assist you with the application process.

Admission Requirements

  • Complete the graduate admission application online.
  • Submit your resume or Curriculum Vitae through the online application process.
  • Provide your enrollment counselor with a copy of your state-issued driver's license or a state-issued identification card. This ID must include your photo and be within the expiration date. If you are an international student, contact your enrollment counselor.
  • You must have a minimum undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 2.6 on a 4.0 scale from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Submit official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended. You may use the Institutional Transcript Request Form (PDF) for this purpose. A psychology undergraduate major is preferred but not required.
  • If your undergraduate GPA is 3.25 or above, you are exempt from the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) requirement. If your GPA is less than 3.25, you must take the GRE and submit your test scores to CCU. Scores submitted must be within the last five years. The Colorado Christian University reporting code for the GRE is 4659.
  • Obtain two letters of recommendation from references who have known you more than one year. One reference must be from a current or former employer, supervisor or professor; the other must be from a pastoral or spiritual mentor, or individual in a position of authority who has knowledge of applicant's character and maturity. Download CCU's Letter of Recommendation form (PDF) and mail it as soon as possible to the person(s) you would like to complete it on your behalf.
  • Upon provisional acceptance into the program, you must complete a criminal background check online through Certified Background. Enter the student code CG88. This must be completed before registering for your first class.
  • Complete an admission interview(s) and respond to any additional requests from M.A. in Counseling program personnel.

Application Deadlines

You can enter the Master of Arts in Counseling program at multiple points in the academic year. For a fall semester start in August, the completed application deadline is July 1. For non-cohort starts, the deadline is four weeks prior to the start date. All required documents must be received by CCU before an admission interview will be granted.

You should complete the admission process as early as possible so you will have adequate time to work with an advisor and qualify for financial aid.

Transfer of Courses

Students may transfer up to 30 semester hours of graduate credit from a regionally accredited college or university. The coursework must be comparable to that offered at Colorado Christian University and fulfill CCU's degree requirements for the M.A. in Counseling program.

Licensing

The Master of Arts in Counseling degree meets all the requirements for graduates to test for licensure in the state of Colorado. Licensure requirements vary from state to state, and students are responsible for knowing the requirements of the state in which they seek licensure, including Colorado, and to review the state requirements above and beyond academic achievement and testing. The State Board Map provided by the National Board for Certified Counselors is a helpful resource when researching state licensure information.
