
The CCU Master of Arts in Counseling program employs both full-time and affiliate professors. Some of the professors currently involved in the MAC program include:
Cartwright, David, Affiliate Faculty
M.A. Counseling; B.S. Organizational Management. David Cartwright has been teaching at CCU for nine years. He has worked as a family/youth pastor in the local church for ten years and has previously served as a chaplain at CCU. For the past six years David has been in private practice working with families, youth, and couples. In conjunction with this he has been serving as a therapist in a treatment center for at-risk youth.
Crawford, Ray, Affiliate Faculty
Ph.D. Colorado State University; M.S. University of Nebraska, Omaha; B.S. University of Oklahoma. Dr. Crawford is a national certified counselor and licensed professional counselor in Colorado. Prior to teaching at CCU, Dr. Crawford served for several years at the Division of Public Welfare in Lincoln, Nebraska; he served eight years as a director of campus ministry in Omaha, Nebraska, and six years as a director of campus ministry in Fort Collins. He has over sixteen years of experience working at a community college with increasing responsibilities as a counselor/advisor, teacher, and administrator. In addition to his extensive experience in higher education, he counseled part time through a private practice.
Freeman, Nahanni, Assistant Professor of Psychology
Ph.D. and B.A. Biola University. Dr. Freeman teaches in both the undergraduate and graduate psychology programs. She has a background in neuropsychological assessment, as well as the assessment of children with metabolic and genetic syndromes and autism. She has worked in clinical settings with developmentally disabled and mentally ill sex offenders, geriatric patients, and the chronically mentally ill. Before coming to CCU, Dr. Freeman taught at Regis University and Metropolitan State College of Denver.
Hersh, Sharon, Affiliate Faculty
M.A. Colorado Christian University; B.S. Bob Jones University. Professor Hersh currently has a private practice in counseling. She specializes in individual, family, and group therapy. She is also the author of several books, including “Bravehearts,” and “Mom, I Feel Fat,” among several other books dealing with adolescence.
Parks, Cherri, Professor of Psychology
Ph.D. and M.Ed. Mississippi State University; B.S. Emporia State University. Dr. Parks is Dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences, and teaches both undergraduate and graduate psychology.
Robinson, Peggy, Affiliate Faculty in Psychology
M.S.W. University of Denver; B.A. University of Northern Iowa. Professor Robinson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). She has taught at CCU since 1995, and currently teaches psychology and counseling in both the undergraduate and graduate programs. She specializes in working with victims of assault, rape, and domestic violence.
Rutter, Jeff, Assistant Professor of Psychology
Psy.D. Wright State University; M.T.S. Vanderbilt University; B.A. University of Tennessee. Dr. Rutter teaches undergraduate psychology on the Lakewood campus, and teaches in the MAC program at CCU's College of Adult and Graduate Studies in Colorado Springs. Before coming to CCU, Dr. Rutter served for six years as an associate minister, and for seven years as an Air Force officer and a licensed clinical psychologist.
Saxby, Bill, Director of the Master of Arts in Counseling Program
Ph.D. University of Vermont; M.A. Fuller Theological Seminary; B.A. University of Vermont. In addition to his role as program director for the MAC program, Dr. Saxby is the chair of the Psychology and Counseling Department. Dr. Saxby teaches in both the undergraduate and graduate psychology programs. He has a background in clinical psychology, having had a private practice for over 12 years, and has taught in higher education for more than 15 years.
Turner, Nancy, Affiliate Faculty
Ed.D., M.A., B.A. University of Northern Colorado (UNC). Dr. Turner is licensed as a psychologist, professional counselor, and a minister. She is currently the senior staff psychologist and director of intern training at the UNC Counseling Center in Greeley, Colo.
Wasika, Leah, Affiliate Faculty
M.A. Denver Seminary; B.A. University of Colorado. Professor Wasicka is a professional counselor with experience in individual, family, and group counseling, drug and alcohol addictions, domestic violence, mental health, and grief and loss.
Welch, Ron, Assistant Professor of Psychology
Psy.D. and M.A. Central Michigan University; B.A. University of Denver. Dr. Welch teaches in both the MAC program and the undergraduate psychology program at CCU. He teaches in the areas of psychopathology, marital and family therapy, practicum seminar, and clinical counseling methods, among other topics. Dr. Welch is also a part-time staff member at a local counseling agency. Before coming to CCU he spent seven years as a clinical psychologist with the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
