Information security is a quickly growing field. A variety of organizations are interested in professionals who have advanced degrees specializing in information security. Career opportunities exist within government agencies, large scale companies, financial organizations, as well as consulting firms.

MBA students at CCU have an option to pursue one of several information security emphases, in conjunction with the University of Fairfax. Unlike MBA degree programs that look at subjects through an intellectual lens only, CCU’s Information Security MBA program will challenge you to explore moral questions as well.

For example, when organizations collect personal information about their constituents, they have business reasons for doing so – from protecting trade secrets to fulfilling fiduciary responsibilities. But there’s also a Biblical imperative to consider. The Golden Rule that Jesus Christ taught compels organizations to care for other people’s property, reputations, privacy, etc., as they would their own.

Through CCU’s MBA in Information Security program, you’ll be challenged to think spiritually, as well as intellectually. Whether you’re entering a career in information security for the first time or you’re strengthening your existing skills, you’ll explore how you can serve a larger cause.

Who Should Consider an Information Security MBA?

An MBA degree with an information security emphasis is often a great fit for:

Information technology (IT) professionals who have substantial experience in computer systems.
Military or law enforcement professionals with technical aptitude or skills.

Students pursuing an information security emphasis (InfoSec) acquire the expertise needed to ensure an enterprise's information security. InfoSec focus areas range from planning and analysis, to risk management and compliance, to security.

How the InfoSec MBA Works

CCU’s Master of Business Administration students take their core business administration courses through CCU. These courses may be taken in-person one evening per week or online, so students have maximum flexibility.

The InfoSec courses are available online through the University of Fairfax. CCU students are able to transfer their University of Fairfax credits within certain guidelines. For terms and conditions on transferring credits, please review the CCU-Fairfax Articulation Agreement (PDF).

Your Choices for InfoSec Emphases

Many of the InfoSec emphases are highlighted below. For details, please review the University of Fairfax Curriculum Overview (PDF).

Information Security Analysis. You’ll learn how to implement an enterprise strategic security plan. You’ll focus on integrating effective security policies, standards, procedures and controls.
Information Security Auditing. You’ll become skilled in assessing network vulnerabilities, analyzing cyber evidence, enforcing data process controls, and establishing information protection programs.
Information Security Engineering. You’ll become skilled at assessing network vulnerabilities and attack methods, as well as designing and deploying counter-measures and resilient security architectures.
Information Security for the Enterprise. You’ll explore the ten domains of information security and examine effective approaches to implement security awareness within an enterprise.
Information System Certification. You’ll learn how to support a management structure to certify and accredit information systems. You’ll develop policies, standards and procedures in accordance with a prescribed set of criteria.
