NICARAGUA 2005
During the 2005 Spring Break missions trip to Nicaragua, our team assisted an organization called Project Chacocente as it worked to provide education, shelter, and independence to families who had previously been living in the Managuan landfill. We spent time building relationships with the families while helping construct part of a new school building and doing crafts with the children. In addition, we also presented care packages containing toiletries and other personal items to the inmates of the Nicaraguan women's prison in Managua. Through these ministries, we presented the Gospel of Christ by living it, serving the poor and downtrodden in Nicaragua.

Having traveled abroad to Europe previously, I've known how interaction with different cultures can enhance one's worldview. However, never was my perspective on politics, economics, or my personal faith so deeply impacted as when I spent a week among the Nicaraguan people. Living in the third world for a week opened my eyes to the suffering of my Christian brothers and sisters living in corrupt and impoverished countries. Talking with individuals living and working in the city dump made me aware of how urgently the work of Christ needs to be accomplished throughout the world.Although I didn't understand why God had called me to Nicaragua, I now realize that this experience has left a lasting impression on me. ~Bridget Manly
