SCOTLAND 2005
For the fifth time in five years, a group of CCU students invaded the village of Lenzie, Scotland. The Scotland trip has become a staple of CCU2theWorld trips, and our relationship with Lenzie Union Parish Church and its members is growing stronger every year.
I was blessed to lead the trip this year, and I had the time of my life as I was able to bring ten other people along with me to serve these people and the church who have come to mean so much to me. Our work consisted of aid and encouragement to the many ministries and organizations that are run out of Lenzie Union. We were blessed to work with students of all ages in Boys and Girls Brigade; Boys, Girls, and Mixed Crusaders; GAP Youth Club; and Sunday School. We had the opportunity to interact with high school students in many different venues including lunch clubs, after-school drop ins and the Scripture Union within Lenzie Academy. Whether I was playing soccer with local youth, teaching first and second year students basketball, having tea with the elderly, or enjoying dinner with the men of the church, believers were encouraging each other and the work of the Kingdom was being fulfilled. Each member of our team stayed with gracious host families, who willingly opened their homes to a group of Americans for ten days during our stay. The hospitality and generosity of the Scottish people is truly unsurpassed, as we were welcomed with open arms. Each year it is harder than the last to get on a plane and depart from our Scottish brothers and sisters in Christ. Yet, because we are in Christ, we have the joy of knowing that one day there will be no oceans to separate us, no long distances to travel, and truly this is the hope of eternity we find in knowing our Lord, Jesus Christ.
