Although Soviet dictator Nikita Khrushchev overreached in 1959 with his threat to Americans, "We will bury you," another of his predictions seems ominously resonant with trends in US politics half a century later. For Khrushchev also said this:
“We cannot expect the Americans to jump from capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving Americans small doses of socialism until they suddenly awake to find they have Communism.”
The troubling quote, amid a proliferation of "czars" in Obama's Washington and the sound of mockery from Pravda itself, was offered by Dr. Paul Prentice at a Centennial Institute briefing on the moral and material superiority of capitalism, July 17 at Colorado Christian University.
Click here for the complete PowerPoint slides from Prentice's lecture, as well as those from Prof. Tamara Hannaway's presentation the same day, showing the worldwide causative relationship between free institutions and human flourishing.
This was the third monthly event in our Issue Friday series. Mark your calendar for the next Issue Friday, August 28, 10am at the CCU campus in Lakewood. Details to follow.
