“The last bastion of freedom.” “The greatest nation in the history of mankind.”
Passionate, patriotic speakers at the 2014 Western Conservative Summit used these terms to describe “America at it’s best,” the theme of the 3-day weekend that called for unity, generational harmony, moral courage, and the preservation of America’s founding principles of faith, family, and freedom.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I beg your indulgence for next couple of minutes. I’d like you to close your eyes, imagine what I am about to say.
North Korea has invaded South Korea. Indonesian paratroopers have landed on Australian soil. Taiwan has been overrun by China. The Russian-Soviet Empire has been re-created. Tyrants in Africa run around more mercilessly than even now. Terrorists terrorize with impunity. War, maybe nuclear, has engulfed the Middle East and Israel stands to be destroyed. In democracy terms, Latin America is back to square one. Cataclysmic natural disasters have no leadership response. Liberty is extinguished, with terror, tyranny and torture reigning.
Many emails the last couple of weeks reminded me to send Norma the flowers and candy I usually send her on Mother’s Day. But I didn’t order them. I haven’t spent that 45 minutes or so picking out the exactly-right Mother’s Day card. And I’ve made no Mother’s Day phone call to tell her how much I love her and talk about my next visit. The former Florida U.S. Representative touched on the topics that had been echoed throughout the weekend by such speakers as KT McFarland, Jonah Goldberg, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and others.
“So here we are, on the Lord’s Day, committed to the timeless principles of conservatism that have made us, America, the envy of the world,” West began. His remarks were Continue reading →
PJ Media video commentator and director Bill Whittle closed Sunday morning’s session at the fourth annual Western Conservative Summit, urging attendees not to let progressives “get away with it anymore” by falsely claiming moral superiority. Continue reading →
Mixing the funny and the philosophical, columnist Jonah Goldberg’s examination of the loaded phrases and political cliches pervading the current political discourse reveals an ideology, progressivism, “without clothing.” Goldberg described what he called the progressives’ use of Continue reading →
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee opened his remarks with some light hearted humor about his weekly trip to New York for his Fox News television show. In response to whether or not he would ever consider living in New York, the Former Governor simply said “I’ll consider living in New York, when Mayor Bloomberg will let me duck hunt in Central Park.” Huckabee talked briefly about Continue reading →
