In the wake of horror, a defense for Charlie

Much of the world was horrified by the savagery exhibited in Paris. That horror, at least in the West, was not so much that people had been killed — that happens regularly enough — but a response to the reason for which they were slaughtered: namely for the “crime” of publishing cartoons that displayed a rather unflattering portrayal of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Look who wants to gut the First Amendment

(Centennial Fellow) By recently voicing full-hearted approval of a bill eviscerating the First Amendment guarantee of free speech, Senate Democrats showed themselves to be among the most extreme, irresponsible, self-serving and historically ignorant establishment politicians of this era. If they should actually get their way — and they conceivably could short of voter outrage — we could someday see a once strapping American spirit hopelessly hobbled when imperiousness comes its way. Salon’s left-wing media ideal would muzzle free speech

Liberty-shredding impulses reign in some news outlets, such as Salon that is forever taking great leaps leftward and recently did so in a book excerpt. It spoke of the wonderful news future you’d get if corporations as we have known them went away, socialism took over and no one had to put up any longer with the likes of Fox News, the Wall Street Journal, CNN or The New York Times.
