Defending liberty

We exist in a vast sea of ignorance and lack of understanding in regards to history, politics, and ideology. Not to mention the implications of each upon our nation and civilization. Perhaps we should not be surprised that large segments of society can’t put the Civil War in the correct century or begin to find major countries on a map. There are entire political ideologies that rely on that mind-numbing, and sometimes frightening, misunderstanding and basic ignorance that a significant portion of society manifests as a source for their power and strength. Thank you. Thank you, Ladies and Gentlemen.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I beg your indulgence for next couple of minutes. I’d like you to close your eyes, imagine what I am about to say.

North Korea has invaded South Korea. Indonesian paratroopers have landed on Australian soil. Taiwan has been overrun by China. The Russian-Soviet Empire has been re-created. Tyrants in Africa run around more mercilessly than even now. Terrorists terrorize with impunity. War, maybe nuclear, has engulfed the Middle East and Israel stands to be destroyed. In democracy terms, Latin America is back to square one. Cataclysmic natural disasters have no leadership response. Liberty is extinguished, with terror, tyranny and torture reigning.

Legislating morality is the wrong question

(’76 Contributor) Let me comment on the March 10 forum at Centennial Institute, “Can We Legislate Morality? Marijuana, Marriage, Murder,” which I was unable to attend.  It’s an attention-getting topic, since in my view the libertarian trend is becoming a suicidal libertine trend, demanding total freedom and a social safety net which becomes unaffordable. It’s also on its way to endorsing NAMBLA as the next step after gay marriage. Eventually the victim list will get some attention. Continue reading

A nation with resolve

Contemplating a resolution for the New Year? Here’s a suggestion. Resolve to put America back on the path of greatness. A centralized government that bestows “equality” by redistributing wealth did not buoy the United States to strength and prosperity. Freedom of opportunity coupled with responsibility made America special. Continue reading
