Barack Obama’s request for a formal Congressional authorization to use military force (AUMF) against the Islamic State has produced the most amazing responses. Everyone seems to be switching sides and one cannot tell the players without a scorecard.
Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain went from earlier introducing a new War Powers Act requiring the president consult with Congress if he plans military action lasting more than seven days to saying, “To restrain [the president] in our authorization of him taking military action, I think, frankly, is unconstitutional and eventually leads to 535 commanders in chief.” Ranking Foreign Relations Democrat Robert Menendez went from introducing a more restrictive AUMF in December to supporting the president’s broader authority now. This is the first of a four (4) part series on the long historical relationship between the political left/Progressives and the global Jihadi Movement over the last century and its current culmination in the attempt to bring down Western civilization in general, and the United States specifically.
In this first edition, we will review the general history of the relationship between the Left and the Islamic Jihad movement, and the disconnect from reality that must take place for the Left to believe the leaders of any totalitarian movement will allow them to survive despite a hundred years of history to the contrary.
Imagine catching a lethal, fast-growing, yet operable cancer in a child before it’s spread. The doctors assure a high survival rate, assuming traditional protocols. Meanwhile, a third opinion proposes no treatment, believing the child can coexist normally with cancer. Continue reading
Free speech is often hailed among the most significant of our fundamental freedoms. In the Western world in particular, freedom of speech and press has allowed for a range of voices, including voices of dissent that seem to indicate that our democracy is in a sense working. However, free speech is not completely free. There are limits and curbs based on what may be of greater importance in various contexts – such as if the speech might endanger others. That is why we can’t yell “fire” in a theater as a joke – the potential chaos and harm it raises in that context outweighs some one’s freedom to say what they want. Continue reading
So a priest, an imam and a rabbi walk into a bar. The bartender says, “What’s this? A joke?”
Yes, and it’s funny, so accustomed are we to religious humor and wit that pokes fun at humanity and the powerful who govern it. Continue reading
The advance of militant Islam with all of the terror attacks around the world in our lifetimes is one of the major issues of our lives. From attacks on targets in Africa, India, Pakistan, England, and France to the attack on America on 9/11 and the rise of the Islamic State across Iraq and Syria, Islamic terrorism and war is a major world problem, and likely the greatest one. Between the presidencies of George Bush and Barack Obama, America seems to be confused about how to think about the threat and how to handle the threat. As in all major issues, policies have to be based on the most important and enduring principles of truth. Continue reading

Could it be the President and his Muslim Brotherhood advisors are really in sympathy with the ISIS goals of imposing the Shari’a and building the Caliphate? If so, their conundrum is how to make the President appear to be “doing something”, yet actually doing nothing to harm ISIS. Becoming bogged down in fruitless negotiations in “building a coalition” would then their purpose to a tee. Continue reading
Brother Rachid, the son of a Moroccan imam, has posted a video called “A Message to President Obama From a Former Muslim” in which he attempts to give the President a crash course in Islamic studies. He begins by telling the president that he is wrong when he said that ISIL speaks for no religion. The former Muslim-turned-Christian further explains that terrorism begins in the schools and Mosques and must be cut off at the root. Continue reading
