When you are accessing the online databases CCU Library has purchased, YOU ARE NOT ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB.  YOU ARE IN A DATABASE OF JOURNALS THAT THE LIBRARY HAS PAID FOR.

FINDING JOURNAL ARTICLES TUTORIAL

LIBRARY PURCHASED FULL-TEXT JOURNAL ARTICLES DATABASES:  (Full-text provides the journal article in its entirety via the computer) (CCU online subscriptions - Current CCU students/personnel should use the Library handout, consult the Library Department Web or contact the Library for authorization/passwords for access to full-text, indexing, and reference online databases.)

• Academic Search and Business Source Premier - (Academic Search offers 4,450 full-text articles  in social sciences, humanities, education, science, and religion. Business Source has 3,650 full-text management and business journals, and wires and regional business news. Choose EBSCOhost Web to begin. Both are an excellent source for SCHOLARLY journals. • ProQuest - (full-text articles of  2,700+ journals in all subject areas, including 300+ psychology and 90 religion journals. It is an excellent source of SCHOLARLY  journals. It also offers indexing and includes the RELIGION and PSYCHOLOGY databases.) ProQuest Quick Guides
   
• LEXIS-NEXIS Academic Universe On Campus - (full-text to news, general, legal, and medical  trade magazines, and business and reference databases. Off Campus Users of LEXIS-NEXIS MUST CLICK ON THIS LINK!  Lexis-Nexis is NOT a scholarly journal database. Business has extensive U.S. and international company information and reference offers almanacs with statistics, country and state information, and biographical information.) • ATLAReligion/ATLAS - (ATLAReligion indexes religious and theological journals and includes full-text for over 60 journals. It offers SCHOLARLY journals. At left middle, list all databases and then select ATLAReligion.) Help

BORROWING JOURNAL ARTICLES FROM OTHER LIBRARIES:

For an item that CCU does not own, Interlibrary Borrowing is an option. Use the borrowing form at the Circulation Desk or online and give it to the Interlibrary Loan Librarian, Tracey Lane (tlane@ccu.edu).

REFERENCE DATABASES:  (This link to our Purchased Reference Works is provided here for convenience. CQ Researcher, Encyclopedia Britannica, Gale Virtual Reference Library (30 REF works), GaleNet, InetLibrary, LION, Naxos Music Library, Nursing Consult, World Data Analyst are CCU's Reference Databases.)

DISSERTATION DATABASES:

• Proquest Digital Dissertations – (index to current two years of citations and abstracts in the Dissertation Abstracts database. At the entry page, click on the “Enter” button to begin a search. For guest searching of titles in Dissertation Abstracts, at the entry page choose “Connect to Dissertation Express,” select a method of payment (even if you do not plan to purchase anything), and conduct a search. Once a dissertation is identified, an individual may request that the CCU Library submit an Interlibrary Loan borrowing request to a local or nearby library. Users also have the option to purchase individually through UMI.)
