CCU Announces New Biology Professor
Colorado Christian University announces the addition of a new assistant professor of biology, Dr. Angela Henderson. Dr. Henderson joins CCU after earning her Ph.D. in microbiology from Colorado State University in 2011. In 2005, she graduated from Montana State University after earning a B.S. in microbiology, as well as a B.S. in cell biology and neuroscience.
"Dr. Angie Henderson brings the needed additional expertise to round out our biology department," commented Dr. Bill Saxby, dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences. "We now have the faculty resources to support our expanding biological sciences department, preparing students for a variety of vocations, founded in Christian faith, and focused upon service toward others and the Kingdom."
Her appointment will enable the School of Humanities and Sciences to launch a pre-medical profession major and a health sciences major in the fall.
Henderson delivers a wealth of research, publication, and teaching experience to CCU. Her postdoctoral research has focused on protective effects of dietary intervention against strains of the pathogens E. coli and salmonella. During her doctoral and postdoctoral work, she has also published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, including Vaccine and the Journal of Medicinal Food. Moreover, her teaching experience expands beyond the traditional doctoral student duties -- such as lecturing and supervising undergraduate students -- as Henderson also possesses a college teaching certificate. The program allowed for increased reflection on and study of teaching, plus significant collaboration with other faculty and staff.
Beyond the classroom, Dr. Henderson boasts time as a wildland firefighter among her various pursuits. She and her husband attend The Town Church in Fort Collins, Colorado.
