CCU Announces New Education Dean

Colorado Christian University is pleased to announce that Dr. Debora Scheffel is the new dean of the School of Education. With an extensive background in educational assessment and a position on the Colorado Board of Education, Scheffel will be able to guide the School of Education wisely while responding to contemporary issues.

"Colorado Christian University is fortunate to have an educator the caliber of Dr. Scheffel," said Vice President for Academic Affairs Cherri Parks, Ph.D. "We will benefit greatly in several ways from her experience and expertise: she is a scholar and a practitioner, and she understands educational policy and governmental influences. She will lead the CCU School of Education with particular proficiency and skill."

Scheffel's extensive background in assessment includes service as the director of Academic Assessment at two universities and as a visiting scholar in assessment at the United States Air Force Academy. Her academic background includes study in communication sciences, disorders, and special education.

Her research interests have included the relationship of childhood disabilities to reading and oral language development, as well as the implications of brain-behavior and cognitive psychology in the learning process.

President Armstrong commented, "I am delighted that Dr. Scheffel will lead CCU's School of Education. She is a distinguished educator and public servant. We are honored to have her join Colorado Christian University."

Dr. Scheffel is also a published author in literacy, special education, and higher education assessment. She serves on the editorial boards of Learning Disabilities Research and Practice, Colorado Reading Council Journal, and the Journal of the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition. Most recently, Dr. Scheffel was dean of Research at the University of the Rockies in Denver.
