Hometown: Berwyn, Illinois
When I was two years old, my family migrated to the United States to pursue the "American Dream". My siblings and I grew up in a very poor environment with many challenges. While we didn't have many advantages, I am thankful that my parents were determined to raise us in the church. Church for me was a refuge.
Since I was a teen I have been involved in the church, volunteering in Sunday school, in the nursery, and anywhere needed. My faith became stronger and my desire to serve God in any way possible grew as well.
I met my future husband while I was still in high school and we married right after I graduated. We started a family the next year and now have three children. Neither of us wanted to leave them in the care of somebody else while they were young, so I stayed home to raise them – putting off my dream of going to college.
While I was unable to further my own education when our kids were younger, I encouraged my husband to finish his schooling. He recently graduated and our whole family was there to witness it.
Over the years, I prayed and I presented God the “desires of my heart”: to further my education, earn a degree, and carry out my calling to work with at-risk children and teens and help the “least of these”. God answered my prayer through K-LOVE and blessed me with a scholarship to Colorado Christian University!
After 14 years away from school, with my family's motivation and support, I now have an opportunity to earn my college degree and offer kids the hope that they need – hope that we can only find in Jesus!
Also, thanks to CCU because I will have the tools that I will need to fulfill my calling, wherever God takes me.
