Student Computers @ CCU

Required Software Configuration

The following software configuration is required on any computer that a student wishes to connect to CCU’s network.

  • Active anti-virus software that has a current update subscription
  • If the computer is running a Microsoft operating system such as Windows XP or Windows 2000, active anti-spyware software with a current update subscription must be installed
  • It is strongly recommended that students run a personal firewall
Anti-virus Personal Firewall
Anti-Spyware Software Packages (Anti-virus, Anti-Spyware and Personal Firewall)
*Free software which must be registered to receive virus updates.  Only valid for CCU software requirements if registered.

Recommended Hardware Configuration

CCU recommends that students purchasing a new computer strongly consider purchasing a laptop computer.  Laptop computers allow students to take advantage of the CCU Wireless Network, take digital notes in class, write research papers in the Library, and provide the flexibility for students to study in whichever environment is best for his or her learning needs.  However, a desktop computer will certainly provide for the essential needs of a student.

Please note that minimum and recommended configurations are meant for new purchases. Most computers less than three years old which adhere to the above Required Software Configuration are adequate for Internet browsing, email, and word processing.
