(By Jaimie Erker, 1776 Scholar) The 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games were defined by numerous moments of scandal and triumph. However, one of the biggest stories to come out of the Olympics was the story
(By John Morgan, '76 Contributor) Mr. Obama has the greatest amount of socially intelligent guile that has operated on the world scene since Adolf Hitler. How in the world did Hitler fool a nation of
Over half (54 percent) of Republicans, 26 percent of independents, and 10 percent of Democrats, when asked in a recent poll which religion describes President Obama’s “deep down” beliefs, said he is Muslim. The poll was conducted in October 2014, by Alex Theodoridis of the University of California at Merced and released in February. Choices included Muslim, Christian, atheist, spiritual, or “I don’t know.” While 45 percent of Democrats said Obama is Christian, his stated belief, only 18 percent of independents and 9 percent of Republicans agreed. Many also responded “don’t know” – i.e., 47 percent of independents, 26 percent of Democrats, and 19 percent of Republicans.
So a priest, an imam and a rabbi walk into a bar. The bartender says, “What’s this? A joke?” Yes, and it’s funny, so accustomed are we to religious humor and wit that pokes fun at humanity and the powerful who govern it.
The advance of militant Islam with all of the terror attacks around the world in our lifetimes is one of the major issues of our lives. From attacks on targets in Africa, India, Pakistan, England, and France to the attack on America on 9/11 and the rise of the Islamic State across Iraq and Syria, Islamic terrorism and war is a major world problem, and likely the greatest one. Between the presidencies of George Bush and Barack Obama, America seems to be confused about how to think about the threat and how to handle the threat. As in all major issues, policies have to be based on the most important and enduring principles of truth.
Brother Rachid, the son of a Moroccan imam, has posted a video called “A Message to President Obama From a Former Muslim” in which he attempts to give the President a crash course in Islamic studies. He begins by telling the president that he is wrong when he said that ISIL speaks for no religion. The former Muslim-turned-Christian further explains that terrorism begins in the schools and Mosques and must be cut off at the root.
Last Wednesday, at a ceremony to appoint Texas lawyer Shaarik Zafar to be special representative to Muslim communities, Secretary of State John Kerry said it was the United States’ Biblical “responsibility” to “confront climate change,” including to protect “vulnerable Muslim majority counties.”
The official response of the Obama administration to the recent beheading of two Americans in Syria by ISIS has been muddled at best. The often timid and tepid statements by various White House spokesmen, the State Department, and even the President himself in response to these specific tragedies and the general threats poised by ISIS have been vague, confusing, contradictory, and sometimes downright silly. (You do know that the members of ISIS are Muslims right? The White House apparently isn’t even sure on that one.)
There’s a jihadi slogan that says, “First comes Saturday, then comes Sunday.” It means, on Saturday we kill the Jews and on Sunday we kill the Christians. Escalating persecution of Christians in the Middle East and Africa is evidence that “Sunday” has arrived. President Obama is apparently unfazed by the religious genocide against Christians as he cedes U.S power and influence in the Muslim world.
(CCU Student) Looking back at Western Conservative Summit 2010 through the eyes of a future soldier, the words I remember most are these: “What price are you willing to pay for freedom?” They were spoken by the last man from whom I would expect to receive a lesson in patriotism—a Lebanese PLO operative who partook in missions against Israel and the west from the time he was a child. However, Kamal Saleem’s words at Western Conservative Summit were probably the most moving and thought provoking of the entire weekend.
