I could not believe it when I heard my priest say the words, “Lynda, maybe you ought to think about finishing your college education.” “Me? School? But, I am in my fifties! I haven’t studied for decades and my daughter’s third grade math confused me. I’m much too old and really, I am not that smart. There is no way I can possibly go back to school. By the time I graduate, I’ll be ready for retirement!”  Unmoved by my protests, the next day my priest sent me an email with a link to Colorado Christian University, and encouraged me to apply. And, as they say, the rest is history.

I transferred eighteen credits into Colorado Christian University. Fall semester, 2011, I began taking eighteen credits of mostly online classes through the accelerated program in CCU’s College of Adult and Graduate Studies, majoring in psychology. My retirement age excuse proved to be unfounded because I am on track to graduate in December 2013, at the age of 55. With constant encouragement and prayers from my dedicated professors, my GPA is 3.96, and I even aced my statistics class. I learned that God gave me a brain and He gave me the ability to use it.

Not only has CCU provided me an excellent education, it proved to me that I can believe in myself and trust my abilities. Because the classes are taught through a Christian worldview, it showed me that God has a special purpose for me in His kingdom; and this experience has deepened my faith.

I tell everyone who will listen about my experiences at CCU. I love it so much that my daughter is now a traditional student at CCU’s main campus in Lakewood. She and I took advantage of an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to both participate in a CCU urban art class in New York City over the Christmas break.

My goal is to work as a Hospital/Hospice Chaplain.
