Post-9/11 GI Bill

GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

The Post-9/11 GI Bill is a new education benefit program for veterans who served on active duty on or after September 11, 2001.

The Post-9/11 GI Bill is considered the most comprehensive education benefit package since the original GI Bill was signed into law in 1944.

Colorado Christian University is pleased to be a participating University, and offer significant benefits under the Post-9/11 GI Bill and the Yellow Ribbon Program. Specific information regarding Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits, qualifications, and more can be found on the official VA website. Please visit the VA’s website at Forever GI Bill for more information on the impact to benefits of the Harry W. Colmery Educational Assistance Act of 2017.

Eligibility and benefits for traditional undergraduates

  • Post-9/11 veterans (served since September 11, 2001) are eligible.
  • Students who are eligible for both the Montgomery GI Bill and the Post-9/11 GI Bill must relinquish the Montgomery GI Bill benefits to receive Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits.
  • For full benefits, veterans must have served on active duty for an aggregate of 36 months; if less than 36 months, benefits will be pro-rated.
  • CCU's certifying official will not determine a student's eligibility. The veteran student should contact the VA and their education officer to determine eligibility.
  • Veterans' benefits may be transferable to their dependents.
  • For the 2018-2019 academic year (August 1, 2018 - July 31, 2019), the Post-9/11 GI Bill will pay tuition and fees up to $23,671.94 at Colorado Christian University.
  • The book stipend equals $41.67 per credit hour up to $1,000 per academic year, and is paid directly to the student.
  • The monthly housing allowance for students attending classes at a greater-than-halftime rate is determined by the VA. CCU’s School Certifying Officials cannot determine how much housing allowance a student will receive. Students should contact the VA for more information regarding about the GI Bill benefit.
  • Tuition and fee payments made on behalf of the student will be issued to the school, not to the student.
  • Post-9/11 benefits can only be applied to tuition and fees. Other financial resources must be used for expenses such as housing and meal plans.

Yellow Ribbon Program

The Yellow Ribbon program is a benefit in which universities may agree to fund any tuition and fee costs that exceed the private school yearly maximum allowed by the VA of $23,671.94. The VA will match each additional dollar the university contributes, up to 50% of the difference between the student's tuition and fee benefit and the total cost of tuition and fees. This benefit allows the returning Armed Forces veterans the opportunity to complete their higher education in the college or university of their choice. Visit the VA's Yellow Ribbon Program website for additional information.

Eligibility and benefits for traditional undergraduates

  • At CCU, an unlimited number of students will be eligible for Yellow Ribbon Program benefits for the 2018-2019 academic year.
  • For the 2018-2019 academic year (beginning August 1, 2018), students in CCU's College of Undergraduate Studies will receive up to $10,000 per year in CCU benefits, beyond the base VA fund, which will be matched dollar for dollar by the VA, for a total of $20,000 per year. The benefit is used to cover any tuition and fees incurred.
  • Post-9/11 benefits are applied to the student's tuition and fees expenses after scholarships and grants have been applied, including the College Opportunity Fund award. GI Bill benefits are not reduced by the amount of Pell Grant or Federal Direct Staff Loans the student is eligible to receive.
  • The benefit is renewable each year the student maintains satisfactory academic progress, conduct and attendance.
