What will you study during theTESOL Master’s Degree program?

The Master of Education in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program is designed to provide professional development for current and aspiring educators and school professionals who are seeking skills in teaching English language learners both in the United States and around the world.

The 30 credit-hour master's degree in TESOL meets all requirements set forth by the Colorado Department of Education for an endorsement in Culturally Linguistically Diverse Education. The degree is also aligned with the best practices and standards promoted by the TESOL International Association.

Highlighted Courses

Students are required to complete 10 online courses for the M.Ed. in TESOL.

Some of the foundational courses include:

  • Theories of Language, Learning and Teaching (CLD 540). This course is an introduction to theories that are the foundation of second language learning and teaching, their review, and applications for the designing of classroom learning and the teaching experiences.
  • Foundations in English Language Education (CLD 577). The course explores historical, social, multicultural, legal, and political background of education of culturally and linguistically diverse students in the United States, including emphasis on connection between culture and learning, cross-cultural communication, and family.
  • Capstone for the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Educator (CLD 691). This course is the culmination of the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education (CLD) program. Students will use the theoretical information they have acquired along with research findings to create a practical application to second language learning in a culturally responsive environment.
