MACI Curriculum and Emphases

CCU’s Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction (MACI) will help you tailor your master's degree to your specific educational goals. The scope and sequence of the online courses are planned to provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in your professional field. In the final performance-based assessment, the capstone, you must demonstrate proficiency in instructional design and its delivery methodologies.

A total of 36 credit hours are required for the Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction degree. A student may choose to pursue a traditional MACI degree, or they may choose from the three Curriculum and Instruction program options: an emphasis in Alternative Licensure; Biblical Studies; or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). All students will complete 18 credits from the professional core, and the remaining 18 credits of the master's in Curriculum and Instruction degree program.

Optional Emphases

Alternative Licensing Emphasis

The Alternative Licensing emphasis is one of the Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction options. Students will take professional core requirements (18 credit hours) and 15 credit hours for the Alternative Licensing Emphasis. An additional three (3) elective credit hours are required to complete the MACI degree.

Biblical Studies Emphasis

The Biblical Studies emphasis is another one of the program options for a master's in Curriculum and Instruction. Students will take professional core requirements (18 credit hours) and 18 credit hours of biblical learning for the Biblical Studies Emphasis.

TESOL Emphasis

The TESOL emphasis is a program option for a master's in Curriculum and Instruction. Students will take professional core requirements (18 credit hours) and 18 credit hours of TESOL coursework.

Pathways to the Master's in Curriculum and Instruction degree

  • If you have completed a teacher education program through CCU’s College of Adult and Graduate Studies, you may apply graduate credits completed through that program toward a MACI degree.
  • Students who have not completed a teacher education program through CCU's College of Adult and Graduate Studies may earn a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction by completing the 33 credits and a final, 10-week capstone course after all other MACI coursework has been completed, for a total of 36 credits in the MACI degree.
