Colorado Christian University Selected as HP Technology Grant Recipient
The Hewlett-Packard Company (HP) announced this week that a grant proposal submitted by associate professor Gary Ewen and vice president Brian Bissell on behalf of Colorado Christian University (CCU) has been funded as part of the HP Technology for Teaching Grant Initiative.
Colorado Christian University is one of a select number of higher education institutions across the United States and Puerto Rico that were chosen by HP to receive this grant in 2006. This grant initiative, designed to support innovative and effective uses of technology in higher education learning environments, includes both a cash grant and an equipment grant of HP technology.
The equipment grant includes 21 wireless HP Tablet PCs with DVD/CDRW optical drives, a portable HP digital projector, a laptop/tablet cart, an HP wireless access point, an HP Photosmart all-in-one printer, and an HP Photosmart digital camera. This portable technology is planned to be utilized in CCU classrooms throughout the Front Range.
CCU's project proposal redesigns one of its graduate business courses, Problem Solving and Decision-Making for Leaders, in a way that integrates the granted HP mobile technology and positively impacts student learning.
"The HP Technology for Teaching initiative focuses on transforming teaching and learning through technology," said Bess Stephens, HP vice president. "By integrating mobile technology in meaningful ways into their classrooms, instructors can increase student achievement and interest and prepare them for greater success in the competitive global workforce."
"This was a very competitive grant process with over 300 applications, so being selected is in itself a sign of success," said Jim Vanides, HP program manager. "We are very excited to have the opportunity to partner with Colorado Christian University as the University implements this project and further develops the institution's technology capacity for the benefit of CCU students."
