News: CCU at Youth Worker Convention

Strong Representation for CCU at the 2006 National Youth Workers Convention

Colorado Christian University was heavily involved at this year's National Youth Workers Convention in Austin, Texas. Hosted by Youth Specialties, this five-day event was designed to provide training in the growing field of youth ministry and featured workshops on every facet of the discipline, activities for personal spiritual reflection, and several dozen seminars with nationally-known speakers.

Among the week's keynote speakers was CCU alumnus Greg Stier. Stier is president of Dare 2 Share Ministries International, a Denver-based evangelical organization that helps teenagers develop their Christian faith and equips them to help fulfill the biblical Great Commission to spread the gospel message. Many of the featured workshop instructors were former CCU adjunct faculty, and one in every seven general session speakers -- as well as numerous event support staff -- was a graduate of the university.

Thirty-one students currently enrolled in CCU's youth ministry program traveled to this year's convention to join 2,500 other delegates from around the nation and world. During the week, the Academic Support Network at Youth Specialties hosted a reception, to which seven graduating CCU seniors and associate professor Dr. Kevin Turner were invited. There, CCU's delegates were able to build valuable contacts with students and faculty from similar university-level programs.

"Our Lord has called us to fulfill the Great Commission," CCU President Bill Armstrong stated. "It is our intention to share the love of Christ on campus and around the world. This convention gives our students the opportunity to sharpen their evangelistic skills and to rub shoulders with student leaders from around the country."
