Cofounder of Campus Crusade for Christ Sends Graduates into Life on a Mission
New graduates received their degrees and a chartering for a life mission from guest speaker Dr. Vonette Bright on May 10, 2008, at the Colorado Christian University commencement ceremonies held at Cherry Hills Community Church in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. In a speech designed to inspire and give hope and ambition, Dr. Bright charged the new alumni to go into the world and set a course to make a difference.
"We could not be more delighted than to have our students complete their time at CCU by hearing about the life's work of one of America's great evangelists," commented CCU President and former U.S. Senator Bill Armstrong. "Instilling a Christian worldview across our country and the world is not a short-term commitment; it is a way of life. No one embodies the steadfast commitment to Christianity and the power of prayer more than Dr. Vonette Bright."
Since cofounding evangelistic organization Campus Crusade for Christ in 1951 with her late husband, Bill Bright, Dr. Vonette Bright has been concerned for the moral and spiritual values of the United States and the world. In 1972, she founded the Great Commission Prayer Crusade, a movement that united Christians to pray for specific national and international concerns. In 1984, she served as chairwoman of the International Prayer Assembly for World Evangelization in Seoul, South Korea. More than 3,000 people from 71 countries joined 100,000 Koreans for this event.
Dr. Bright's commitment to prayer also led to the founding of the National Prayer Committee, a group of leaders who seek to motivate other Christians to pray for spiritual awakening. She served for nine years as chairwoman of the National Day of Prayer Task Force, which encourages citizens to join in prayer for our nation and its leaders on the National Day of Prayer. In 1988, she was successful in introducing legislation unanimously approved by both houses of Congress to make the first Thursday of every May the permanent date for the National Day of Prayer.
Today, Campus Crusade for Christ is the largest Christian ministry in the world, with a presence in over 191 countries. The organization is also the originator and distributor of the Jesus film, a docudrama about the life of Jesus Christ, based on the Gospel of Luke, and the most widely translated film in history (over 1,000 languages and more than 6 billion viewings worldwide since its introduction in 1979). Campus Crusade is composed of 60 unique ministries, employs over 25,000 full-time staff, and has trained 225,000 volunteers around the world.

"CCU's commencement ceremony is the launching pad for each student's post-graduate faith mission. The University was honored to have Dr. Bright join us on this very significant occasion."
