CCU Launches Re-Designed Music Education Degree
Colorado Christian University's School of Music in conjunction with the School of Education proudly launches its four-year Bachelor of Music in Music Education program. After two years of focused study, and conversations with current students, recent grads, teachers, and administrators, this new program was designed to equip graduates to be conversant with current music education methodologies, and will also be able to adapt to future trends as they emerge.
The new program beginning this August is now a four-year plan which will be more competitive with other universities. This change also helps individual students reduce their college cost by over $14,000, as they will now have one less semester of tuition to pay.
It's exciting! says Steven Taylor, CCU's Dean of the School of Music. We see this as a game changer for our University and our music education students. Recognizing that music education in the 21st century is far different than that of the previous century, this program will continue to evolve with the increasing use of digital and social media.
Cherilyn Smith-Bidstrup music educator, arts administrator, and Colorado Music Education Association Hall of Fame members is both the architect and director of this new music program. This re-envisioned music education degree prepares all students for success as a music educator in whatever setting they many find themselves, comments Smith-Bidstrup.
Students will graduate as consummate music educators, says Smith-Bidstrup. The program promotes an entrepreneurial spirit with a focus on preparing students to teach anywhere and everywhere, in both today's and tomorrow's education systems.
