CCU Wins 6th RMAC Sportsmanship Cup
It was announced today that Colorado Christian Athletics was awarded the 2017-2018 Sportsmanship Cup award in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). Not only is this the second year in a row that CCU has received this award, the University has won the Sportsmanship Cup six of the 12 years the award has been made available — more than any other school in RMAC history.
The RMAC Sportsmanship Cup is awarded to the institution that upholds ethical conduct and the sportsmanship ideals held by the RMAC and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The award recipient is chosen by votes from the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and coaches from each institution that is a RMAC member.
“On behalf of all Colorado Christian student athletes and coaches I want to say that the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Sportsmanship Cup award means so much to all of us,” said Brian Wall, CCU’s director of Athletics. “We emphasize to our students the importance of competing with grit and excellence in a way that respects our opponents and brings glory to the Lord Jesus Christ. We appreciate and value this award as an acknowledgement of respect from our opponents and affirmation that we are competing according to the biblical ideals to which we aspire."
Colorado Christian's vice president of Enrollment and Student Life, Jim McCormick, was also excited about the honor. "This award is job one for our Athletics department. There is no way to be a witness for the cause for Christ if we aren’t recognized as such by other teams — that our athletes and coaches are approaching what we do on the fields, courts, courses, and tracks, in a different way than most athletic endeavors.”
McCormick congratulated the CCU coaches on fostering teams of integrity and character, as well as the student-athletes competing in intercollegiate athletic events.
