CCU Announces First Spanish-language Academic Program

Certificado de Estudios Bíblicos Offered Through CCU Online

Colorado Christian University, the flagship Christian liberal arts university in the Rocky Mountain region, announces its first Spanish-language academic program, a Biblical Studies Certificate, which is available online through CCU's College of Adult and Graduate Studies. The accredited certificate was adapted from the English-language version of CCU's popular Biblical Studies Certificate and will be taught in Spanish by professors in the School of Biblical and Theological Studies.

"We are excited to launch the Certificado de Estudios Bíblicos program for Spanish-speaking pastors, ministry leaders, and other students interested in spiritual development and deeper biblical understanding," said Dan Cohrs, executive vice president of CCU. "Through the certificate program, enrolled students will gain knowledge in the Old and New Testament and develop tools to strengthen both personal and professional ministry. This program helps extend CCU's mission of impacting the world with grace and truth to Spanish-speaking audiences."

The 12-credit-hour certificate includes four required courses and one prerequisite composition course to ensure writing proficiency. The four primary courses offered are: Old Testament Introduction, New Testament Introduction, Biblical Interpretation, and Spiritual Formation. All classes will be taught entirely online in Spanish and students must be conversational in English in order to complete administrative processes. In addition, three credit hours (or the equivalent) of transfer credit may be used toward the certificate.

"The program is designed to offer maximum flexibility for Spanish speakers who want to learn about the basic themes, issues, and schools-of-thought within biblical Christianity," said Dr. Earl Waggoner, dean of the School of Biblical and Theological Studies. "Our hope is that graduates of this program will be prepared to better address world issues and events from a biblical perspective."

CCU is now accepting applications for the inaugural Biblical Studies Certificate cohort with classes beginning August 23. Courses will be taught in five-week blocks with an expected time commitment of 15-20 hours per week. Because CCU recognizes the value of in-depth study of Scripture, the University offers the Biblical Studies Certificate at a discounted tuition rate of $250 per credit hour; a fee of $68 per credit hour covers all technology resources.
