News: CCU Online Launches Creative Writing Program

Best-selling Author Jerry Jenkins to Serve as Program Chair

Colorado Christian University is excited to announce the launch of the Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing degree program for the CCU Online fall 2021 term. Students in the 100% online program will learn under the tutelage of world-renowned best-selling author Jerry B. Jenkins, who chairs the program and developed the curriculum. Upon graduation, students in the B.A. in Creative Writing program will be prepared to pitch their own work to publishers and agents.

“The world and the kingdom need writers who can communicate dynamically and effectively today more than ever,” Jenkins said. “The Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing will teach you everything I've learned in nearly a half century in this business and will give you a chance to succeed in ministry or in the marketplace.”

Students in the CCU Online creative writing program will discover and hone their writing abilities as they learn the creative writing processes of one of the most prolific and successful Christian authors of the last 100 years. The new academic program will prepare graduates for careers in the literary field. Students will gain firsthand experience in numerous forms of writing while receiving expert insight and advice from experienced professors. They will learn the inner workings of the publishing industry, which will serve to guide them in their careers as authors. In addition to learning the latest trends in book publishing, students will also develop a personal website.

“CCU's online Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing program is an incredible opportunity for students to foster their Christian voice in the field of creative writing,” said Dr. Sarah Scherling, vice president of Academic Affairs for the College of Adult and Graduate Studies. “The program stands out from other creative writing degrees in its commitment to training Christian writers who can effectively communicate their calling from God in the secular and Christian marketplaces. At CCU, we take pride in developing the whole student, both spiritually and academically.”

Jenkins has authored nearly 200 books with collective sales of more than 70 million copies, including the best-selling Left Behind series. He is a former vice president for publishing and former chairman of the board of trustees for the Moody Bible Institute of Chicago. Jenkins' writing has appeared in Time, Reader's Digest, Parade, Guideposts, and dozens of Christian periodicals. Twenty-one of his books have reached The New York Times best-seller list (seven debuting at number one).

“Every person involved with this program unapologetically urges you to strive for excellence in writing that honors God and His calling on your life, whether that means a writing career or using your writing as a powerful ally to do whatever you are called to do,” Jenkins said.
