Biography and Professional Achievements
Alec Ellis joined the faculty of CCU after previously working in three different library settings: Johnson County Public Library (Kansas), Alpine Public Schools, and Point Loma Nazarene University. His diverse experiences in the field help him manage the University's library website and technology needs. He also recently attended the Western Archives Institute training to prepare for the work of managing the CCU archives.
Ellis' career and research interests include making sure the "five laws" of library science, as articulated by S.R. Ranganathan, are followed wherever he works: 1. Books are for use. 2. Every reader, their book. 3. Every book, its reader. 4. Save the time of the reader. 5. The library is a growing organism. (Books, of course, have expanded to many types of resources, many of which are now accessed digitally!) Ellis puts each of these principles into practice through his work at CCU.
Ellis is a San Diego transplant, and he is excited about life in Colorado, enjoying the state's great weather and spending time in the mountains. He has been married to his wife, Kelcey, for 11 years, and they have a son, Caleb. In his free time, he likes to read, as well as play board games, watch soccer, and get excited about whatever new thing his three-year-old just discovered about the world.
