Biography and Professional Achievements

Dr. Javier Sierra is a firm believer in the healing power of caring, supportive, and properly responsive relationships, the reason why he has dedicated more than 25 years to helping individuals, couples, and individuals find solutions to their dilemmas and also grow and become the persons God intended them to be. For most of those years, he was a counselor educator in a CACREP-accredited counseling program, training, supervising, and mentoring the newer generations of counselors at a prestigious theological seminary in the U.S.

Dr. Sierra is a full-time professor of counseling at CCU. He received his first degree in psychology in his country, Honduras, and his doctorate and master's degrees in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College. He is the 1998 recipient of the Arthur and Jean Rech Award: Integration of Faith and Practice, Academic Excellence and Professional Proficiency from Wheaton College and the 2010 recipient of the Faculty Award for Excellence in Mentoring from Asbury Theological Seminary.

Dr. Sierra is a professional counselor and family and marriage therapist in private practice in Orlando, Florida. He has contributed to the pre-marital and addictions ministries at his local church. Because of his commitment to the growth of the Latino church, he provides marriage enrichment and parenting workshops and seminars in various Latina churches in Florida and in some Latin countries. His teaching has extended to the training of pastoral and lay counselors in several countries in Latin America.

He holds licensures in mental health counseling and marriage and family therapy in the state of Florida. In addition, he is a member of the American Counseling Association and the American Psychological Association. Dr. Sierra has also received extensive training in Emotional Focused Therapy and Internal Family Systems and is certified in the Prepare & Enrich relational assessment.
