Biography and Professional Achievements
Dr. Kristy Hardwick recently relocated to Lakewood, Colorado, from the Cincinnati area where, in addition to her full-time faculty work, she owned a private counseling practice. She is a licensed professional clinical counselor with training supervision designation in the state of Ohio and plans to obtain her Colorado counseling license now that she has settled into life along the Front Range.
Dr. Hardwick has worked in mental health for more than 20 years. She has been a therapeutic aid, mental health case/care manager, clinical counselor, clinical supervisor, and clinical director. Some of her clinical experiences include working with severely emotionally disturbed children/adolescents and families, counseling adults with a variety of mental health issues including severe mental illness, conducting a variety of counseling groups, and providing clinical supervision.
Dr. Hardwick embraces an ecological counseling perspective — a metatheoretical framework which seeks to understand people within the contexts of their lives, the dynamic interactions which occur, and the meanings attributed to them. As such, Dr. Hardwick has utilized various treatment modalities based on client needs in a variety of settings including public mental health agencies, private practices, churches, and university counseling centers.
Dr. Hardwick is a certified clinical trauma professional and a certified American Red Cross disaster mental health volunteer. She has been deployed to various disasters across the United States to provide mental health services.
Dr. Hardwick joined the CCU team in August 2016. She has more than 15 years of teaching experience, including as an adjunct professor in both undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as a previous appointment as full-time faculty. Additionally, Dr. Hardwick has served as a clinical director and practicum/internship coordinator where she provided oversight of clinical training for students. She enjoys walking alongside students as they apply their skills and knowledge in their clinical work with clients.
Some of Dr. Hardwick's areas of interest include children/adolescents, grief and loss, trauma, disaster mental health, spirituality, social-emotional needs of the gifted, cross-cultural work/missions, collaboration/training with clergy, and counselor education/supervision. She is also passionate about using professional counseling skills and knowledge to bring hope and healing to the hurting.
