Biography and Professional Achievements
Dr. Mary Hobus has over 35 years of clinical and academic experience in professional nursing leadership and practice. She is a proven leader and an accomplished nursing educator who believes in teamwork and collaboration. She utilizes her knowledge, abilities, skills, and practice to promote the profession of nursing and academic excellence. Dr. Hobus promotes and fosters an educational and practice environment that applies advanced innovative pedagogy which promotes student achievement, success, and diversity. As a nursing educational leader, she has developed curricula and programs, and has actively participated in strategic planning for implementation and evaluation of these programs.
Dr. Hobus has had the honor and privilege of providing leadership for the start of an Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN), RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN), and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) programs. Dr. Hobus has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses online and in the classroom. The courses she has taught include: Health Assessment; Foundations in Nursing; Spirituality in Nursing; Pediatrics; entry and advanced Medical-Surgical nursing; Pediatrics, Research, Leadership; Advanced Senior Preceptorship Seminar and Health Care Context; and Organizational Systems Leadership.
Her clinical experiences have occurred in large acute care hospitals, teaching hospitals, community hospitals, long-term care facilities, and in community settings locally and globally. These clinical experiences include care across the life-span in neonatal intensive care; newborn nursery; perinatal unit; adult medical-surgical units; pediatrics; adult medical and cardiac intensive care units; outpatient services; emergency nursing; and hospital supervisor.
Professionally, Dr. Hobus has had numerous opportunities to be proactively involved in curriculum development, assessment, and evaluation. She has been professionally active in local, state, and national organizations for the advancement of nursing leadership and academia. Dr. Hobus has had extensive experience in writing reports for the Board of Registered Nursing and CCNE accreditation for the continuation of excellence in nursing education. Dr. Hobus has had the honor and privilege to participate with the development of two Nursing Honor societies, continuation of activities in the Student Nursing Associations (SNA), and a medical mission trip to Madagascar. Additionally, she has had the honor and privilege to design a new nursing department with state of the art classrooms; a 10–bed nursing skills lab; three high-tech stimulation labs with video and voice recording; an assessment room; and a nursing station.
