Biography and Professional Achievements

Dr. Shannon Lewis has been working in the field of culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) education for over 20 years. She is passionate about preparing educators to serve CLD students and equipping them with 21st century tools. Lewis has been teaching in distance education and virtual classrooms for over 12 years. She has extensive experience teaching and researching language and literacy development and education across the curriculum for ELL, ESL, CLD, and bilingual students. She has worked in public education k-12, adult education, teacher preparation programs, and university graduate programs in CLD education.

Lewis was the recipient of the Fulbright Scholar award where she served both teachers and economically struggling communities with little access to education in Honduras (2006-2007). She continues to work to prepare educators to increase educational access for CLD students, both locally in the U.S. as well as globally, through teacher preparation, conferences and publications.
